When using the nvidia video chip, does the intel release its shared memory?

So I'm on the nvidia all day at work. I use the intel when im off battery but it's pretty rare. Does the shared memory that the intel card use get released to the OS for useage or is it reserved permanently?

I'm pretty sure it's permanently reserved, I've never seen anything suggesting otherwise, not to go into detail.
