Yes, the original hardware 2G and 3G iPhones have a large install base so it makes sense for developers to just port over to the 3GS so all devices can run the games but the 3GS is touted for having such superior capabilities when it comes to gaming but all it can do is basically run the 3G games a little smoother. There are virtually no 3GS only games to showcase the power of what it can do.

I don't want to leave all the other users out there in the dust but I can't help feeling that the power of the device is a little wasted without some Apps that take full advantage of the hardware. I really hope the next iPhone changes only aesthetically and keeps mostly the same hardware otherwise we may never give developers a chance to catch up and put out some good games that showcase it.

Anyone else see this dilemma and feel the device to be a bit wasted in what it is capable of?

Not really, I enjoy playing HR Battle, Super KO boxing 2, SandStorm, Real Racing GTI, etc:

What kind of games are you expecting?

Games that push the 3GS hardware to the limit and showcase what it can do.

Think about it. You are an iPhone App-developer.
You can choose to make an app that will run great on 10 million (not sure) iPhone 3G's and superb on 1 million iPhone 3GS's, or you can choose to make an app that will only work good on the 1 million 3GS's.
11 million potential buyers vs. 1 million potential buyers.

    Which one would you choose?

You didn't read my original post. I am well aware of why developers choose the handheld with the most users. I am just saying that it really sucks that 3GS owners may never get to see games that utilize our hardware especially if Apple keeps upping the specs of new iPhones each year.

Sure it can run 3G games better but wouldn't it be nice to see some games that are fully optimized for 3GS?

But you still haven't told us what fully optimized games consist of. Or are you just looking for a game that says 3GS only?

A fully optimized game would be developed entirely on OpenGL ES 2.0 platform and use the 3GS' increased RAM and CPU to raise the bar in visuals to the level of what we see on the PSP if not better. That is what I would like to see.

Maybe a Doom 3 similar to the graphics on Xbox. http://fabiensanglard.net/dEngine/

Thanks for explaining. Yea I agree it does suck, but it's the same thing we all experience on PCs.
