I'm waiting to purchase through Amazon so I can use my gift card balance but they still only have the 5th gen listed as "newest model". Does anyone know how long it usually takes them to get new models in stock? Also, will Amazon sell them directly? All the 5th gen models seem to be through third party sellers and many seem to be priced higher than retail. I know Amazon is an authorized reseller of iPods, which I thought meant they would sell them directly.

Apple seems to be changing a bit regarding new items being available outside their stores ( the watch and now the Touch). Not sure the Touch's overall availability as I am sure they were not going to mass produce it and then having a large inventory of an item not selling. So it makes sense to first sell it themselves.

The 6th gen is now available on Amazon through this third party seller:

Abt Electronics

And at normal retail price as well! Which is cheaper than most of the 5th gen models are still being sold at! :D Shipping is Aug 6 - 14 though.

Looks like they're sold out now, got in early for a Gold/32GB and no tax charged.

I got in on it as well before they disappeared. And to my surprise, I just got a shipping confirmation and it should be here in 3 days! So much for Aug 6 - 14. I'm very pleased. :D

Edit: Scratch that - it's now scheduled for early delivery in 2 days!
