iPad with an intel i7, 1GB Ram and Retina display happen? I don't think that I'll ever feel the need to upgrade unless something awesome happens with the iPad. I would only upgrade when the iPad gets a dual core 2ghz 1gb ram. Why don't apple use intel processors in the iPads and iPhones?

Why no i7: Heat, Power Usage, Price Per Unit... Pick one =P

As for 1GB of RAM and a Retina display; The RAM will happen with the iPad 3 and a Retina display will happen with the iPad 4(maybe 3 but its unlikely).

A picture worth a thousand words:

But not to appear a spamming troll:

NEVER!

The i7 is not a mobile cpu. Stop throwing around terms which you don't know the meaning off.

Also from a distance the iPad is already a "retina" display. So is a 25 year old CRT television.

On a related note, when is iOS going to have a better notification system, improved file sharing, and a mind control interface?

Based on current technology, a few reasons:

1- power requirements too high (re battery size)
2- requires active cooling (adding to the power requirement and space needed)
3- space. The Intel CPU isn't a SOC - it still requires external devices, one being RAM.

My guess is the roadmap for the iPad will be derived from improvements in the ARM CPUs for quite a while yet (just as the Apple A5 uses Cortex A9 (dual) vs. the A4's Cortex A8).

ARM based processors are much better than Intel processors in mobile devices where low power consumption is key. The 11" Macbook Air has half the battery life of the iPad 2, and that's with an extremely low power consumption Intel chip. If you used an i7 that battery life would be more like 1-2 hours.

Yes there will be faster iPads in the future, with more cores, more memory, and higher res screens. No, they will not use Intel chips.

I would just settle for the iOS have a better notification system on both phone and iPad, plus any type of user defined file system. Apple just does not seem to want to please in these two areas.

The reason the iPad doesn't have an i7 is the same reason my Honda doesn't have a Wartsila-Sulzer RTA96-C engine.

At the rate of current technology 2020 we will see mobile chips have the equivalent power of the i7.

When will...

When will....... people stop putting incomplete subject lines to get views? Can I have my click back?
