I notice that Ikea has three apps, which are all available on the App Store, but only two of their apps are on the Google Play store, the odd app out is their ARKit built Ikea Place, where one scans your room by waving your iOS device about then you place pieces of their stuff in situ which automatically scales as you walk around it. It's an astounding early glimpse of useful AR.

How technically difficult is it for Google to enable this functionality in Android? Is it something that can be accomplished in a few months? Or is it too difficult to do on a platform like Android that has to accomodate so many variations?

You'd be better off by posting to an Android forum (e.g., over at https://forums.androidcentral.com/). Some very good forums there (I have Android devices along with iOS).

You may misunderstand, I'm not interesting in using android, I'm interested in how much of a technical achievement ARKit is for iOS and whether it's a major obstacle for Android or a minor obstacle. Because Ikea Place seems like a huge direction for AR utility apps.
