Other When will apple be selling batteries?

In November last year Apple surprised us with the announcement of self repairs. Any idea yet how long this will take until batteries become available? I really need to change some batteries.

Available first for the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 lineups, and soon to be followed by Mac computers featuring M1 chips, Self Service Repair will be available early next year in the US and expand to additional countries throughout 2022.

So, I don't know where you are located, but we must not be far from the US launch of the repair program. We'll have to wait a few months for people outside US or for M1 Mac repairs

Ah I didn’t know this was gonna be region dependent. Don’t live in the US. Also didn’t know they were only bringing it to a few models. I have a 6s that needs a battery replacement. Seems silly to only offer it to the latest models.

Yeah it doesn’t seem to cover anything older than iPhone 12 🙁

Ah I didn’t know this was gonna be region dependent. Don’t live in the US. Also didn’t know they were only bringing it to a few models. I have a 6s that needs a battery replacement. Seems silly to only offer it to the latest models.

Considering a pristine 6S is only worth $100 U.S. tops, I'd think spending $40-$50 for a battery that can be easily had for $10-$25 from 3rd parties it's not worth it to them.. They'll only supply parts for phones and products a few years old. 3rd parties have done a nice job offering parts for phones that aren't even supported anymore so they'll offer parts at prices that make repairs worth it

I guess that makes sense. I just wanted a genuine OEM battery. I’ve had some bad experiences with third party battery exchanges so I wanted a genuine. Maybe if I buy the battery myself I can find a reasonably good quality one.

I hear you, maybe Apple will start offering parts for older devices after they establish the inventory and demand for the newer phones. I just had the battery replaced by Apple in my iPhone X a couple of months ago. It took about an hour and it brought new life to the phone for a reasonable cost($69) which included the earpiece speaker replacement that is necessary when doing a battery replacement on the X..

iFixit sells decent batteries. I did one in my 6S+ about a year ago and still going..
