Apple is now firmly on the money chasing train, despite being not short it, and we can rest assured that the introduction of USB-C will be designed to squeeze the blood out of you. For example, I can already see they keep waiting on introducing a higher res cinema display. For that you'll probably need to buy their upcoming macbooks no doubt. And so on....

As far as Apple adopting USB C... I don't see it happening in the near future. Although it would be nice, it doesn't really benefit their business. If Apple suddenly struggles to sell their iPhones then they may have some reason to make a phone with a universal charging standard. That, or they could decide to use USB C when they feel they've surpassed the needs that their lightning standard can provide. As others have mentioned, with Apple's push towards wireless everything, all they really need is a port for charging at the moment.

Explain the ports do the same comment please. USB c is vastly different
USB type c is essential combining a type a with display port. A port that is much better served on a computer/tv then on a mobile device. Since Apple doesn't use fast charging at all and the need to transfer data over a wired connection is basically little or never needed feature anymore then there is no real benefit for them to switch.

It seems most seem to be heading into this direction now. HTC M10 has moved to USB type C and now the note 7 will come with it and i imagine the S8/S8 edge will be as well. When do you think apple will jump on this?
No. Apples customers have 4 years invested into Lightning cables and accessories. Now it's rumored that they're removing the headphone jack an I may make some buy an adapter, or new headphones. It's unlikely Apple would move to a new "standard" which would require buying all new cables and accessories, as well as a headphone adapter.

Add to that nobody is using USB-C at the moment. If you need a lightning cable there's almost nowhere in the world you can't get one. Try that with USB-C.

By the time USB-C achieves any kind of critical mass, Apple will most likely be rumored to remove the Lightning port completely from the then next iPhone.

Apple is moving to a completely wireless infrastructure, and were a lot closer than it might seem today. USB-C comes a little late -- they should have introduced it four years ago when Apple needed it, but at that time nobody else was innovating past the need for micro USB, so why change?

Now they're making the change on the cusp of a wireless world. And that's why in addition to USB-C, useful for moving TBs worth of data on desktops, and driving multiple displays and peripherals, Apple will likely add Lightning to their Macs for convenience of their customers.

Lightning can transmit hdmi/vga. Apple went with lightning as it locks people into their ecosystem as I've already said. We won't see USB c on iOS devices for that reason and that reason alone.

It will not be this year and I hope not the next. What is the rush to go to USB-C? Do not see any big advantages at this point. I deliberately bought an older new MacBook Pro so that I could still have ports and multiple USB ports that I need.

Why not? Proprietary parts are never a good thing ... Plus fairly expensive ones. I can buy a $5.00 Micro USB cable while at the same length pay $10 for it per cable and I buy around 4 per year ? I also have Micro USB cables for other items like controllers and etc. Eventually everything will be USB that doesn't come from a certain fruity company.... I am not an Apple Fanboy and if they remove the 3.5MM jack I won't be buying a new iPhone unless it has a USB C port... Lightning port headphones will be a deal breaker because then those will only be usable on a certain device...

Sorry but I have no problem with Apple being smart and making money. Everyone has a choice to buy or not. Seems making money is "looked down on" these days. Being a business person, profit is why we have everything we have now.

Schools no longer teach this anymore.

So? Just because I can make money off you and nickel and dime you doesn't mean I should.... Trust me with my long term career goals in mind I could nickel and dime my customers but I wouldn't ....

Ummm what? Fanboy much? You can find USB C cables fairly easily as Lightning cables sans the $4 dollar cables at your nearest drugstore or street corner since those cables suck.
