Made my purchase through the Education store. So far just received a charge for the $150 Gift Card promotion that comes with the new M2 MBA. I know Apple charges when they ship, but when (if any) will they actually put a hold on my CC for the BTO version?

Not education but my credit card was charged about 5 hours after my order was accepted - not when shipped

Why does it matter? Some of the weirdest questions when people buy Apple products ha.

I'm using a CC that earns rewards. I purchase pretty much anything I would with my debit card on it to earn rewards then pay it down with cash. Many purchases are unexpected and on the fly when outside. Since the card is about the exact limit of my BTO MBA purchase, I wanted to make sure it doesn't decline while I'm using it for other reward purposes or lag time after payments are made over the next couple weeks. Knowing at what point Apple charges the BTO MBA or puts a hold on the card would be helpful for that reason as I don't want my MBA to be cancelled or have delays.

Mine was too but it was because I did the 12-month no interest purchase on my Apple Card. Normally you don’t get charged until the status changes to ready to ship or shipped.

How did you get on with this? My card hold on the gift card dropped off and reappeared a week later. I am curious if this was your experience and if it is indicative I might get the machine soon… :D😅

If the product you order is usually 2-3 weeks or even longer, they simply just have your card info when you order. Your card will be charged when it's preparing to ship. This is my experience for orders that I have to wait that long.

The simple answer is - don’t use that card, or be prepared for either the MBA or other purchases to decline. No one on MacRumors can GUARANTEE when the charge is going to hit the card, so regardless of what “Other experiences” were - if you use this card that is near its limit, there’s a significant possibility that either the Mac or other purchases will be affected.

If that’s okay with you - Vaya con Dios. If not - use a different card.
