Frys had a couple of demo screens at that price in a few store. They would not order me one for that price. Don't count on Frys for anything.

Depending on the sales tax in your state, you can either go with a new one from B&H for $929 or a refurbed one from Apple for $829 that comes with warranty and can have Apple Care. For me the refurbed one with sales tax is around $40 cheaper. If you were lucky enough to be in a no tax situation, you can save big time on the refurbed units.

So with the new ATD what are you guys expecting?

- same thin design as new iMac
- glass glued to screen as new iMac
- USB 3
- less glossy screen
- same 2560x1440
- same IPS screen

So are the smaller form factor and USB 3 the big things worth waiting for for many of you? I guess a less reflective screen is nice but a current ATD @ $799 seems like an awesome deal.

These new iMacs really make my TBD look bloated...

I just hope it still has a firewire port on it...

Not worth it to me.. I don't need USB3 on my displays, fine with just having it on my Mini. Could care less about "thinner" display - it's a gimmick. Less reflective is nice, but I don't find the current display to be all that reflective.

Would Apple hold an event for the release of a new ATD and/or maybe tie-in with another product announcement, or would they just add it to their product line with a press release and start shipping?

I'm new to the Apple world and was wondering what the history has been in the past on this? I know Apple likes their "events," but I wasn't sure if a new monitor alone was really that special.

Thanks

Doubtful. A new display announcement would most likely accompany the spring refresh of the Mac line and perhaps the introduction of a revamped Mac Pro.

I've been toying with the idea of picking up a refurbished Thunderbolt display to replace my original 24", mostly for more screen real estate, plus the Ethernet and Firewire ports. I only have an external drive that is USB3 capable, but it's also FW800, so it's not a huge deal.

I guess I'll wait to see what the rumors bring after the start of the new year.

Here is the deal by March 2013:

Apple Mac Pro with Intel Xeon Phi coprocessor (60 cores/240 threads per card; up to 8 cards per host computer) besides the logic board full CPU Xeon processors (2 x 10 = 20 cores), of course.
4x4TB=16TB 7200 RPM HD inside - 4x5TB=40TB by end 2013.
Now, that is a personal SuperComputer!

Apple Thunderbolt Display with USB 3
Hopefully with a matte option, even if more expensive. Because the glossy one is a serious health and productivity issue for many.

Apple Keyboard (wired) with USB 3 hub for convenient connection of USB 3 peripherals.

Get the Dell U3013 when it comes out in a few months: 30" - IPS panel - 16:10

There wasn't any 2012 model, so this is like '2' better.

Seeing the Dell U2713H and U2413H being released. The new Thunderbolt Display better be released soon!

I would bet the new ATD will come with the new Mac Pro (mid 2013?). It is not critical before then (just wanted). A new ATD and good revised Mac Pro could be a killer combo.

If anyone manages to purchase an ATD from Frys, or anywhere else, for $799 let us all know.

i bought it from Best Buy for $ 799 after they price matched with Fry's , they did not check if they have in stock at Fry's.
But i am still thinking if i need to keep it or return after the seeing the news that there is gonna be ATD refresh...

As a happy owner of a Dell U3011 and also a user of Apple Thunderbolt Display (at work), I agree, get a Dell U30xx.

I can't find any info on what is improved in the Dell U3013. I imagine it will be LED-backlit.

worth buying a TBDisplay, for 720 €, used Nov / Dec 2012, or waiting for the new to come and pay more than 900 €?

Is for connect a MBP 17" late 2011

Thanks for advices

Do you need a monitor now? If so buy it. Can you wait to get a new monitor? If you can wait, wait and see what Apple has in store for the ATD.

well is not a matter of necessity..right..right NOW, but of opportunity for the price and low usage (2 months only)

Do you need USB 3? Do you need anti-glare design of new iMac screen? Do you want thinner design of monitor? If you want these, are you willing to pay the 180€ price difference for the updated version?

Only you know the answer to those questions.

I purchased a refurbished ATD about a week ago from Apple for the $829. I put it on a new Mac Mini. I have to say I am very pleased with it and like the fact it has a decent pair of speakers in it that doesn't sound bad and having the camera is also a plus. I still think it's worth a buy even if they refresh them

i have the 24' ACD and i love it so much i didn't care much when they released the 27' because i still think the 27' is too big....i didn't care for the Thunderbolt release either but the next refresh with thinner design and hopefully hopefully Retina Display will let us all get rid of whatever we have! :)

nobody's really mentioned this but it would be nice if the new design of the thunderbolt display had a vesa mount on the back so I can mount it on an arm.

hopefully they will not be gimped like the imacs and not have it.

It probably will be based off the new iMac and not be VESA compatible. Sorry. I would be completely shocked if they made a different shell for the iMac and one for the ATD.
