Center stage would have been perfect for the recent iMac but I assume it’s just a matter of time. The question is will it come to the rumored upcoming larger iMac? The upcoming MacBook Pros? Or are MacBook displays too thin for the wider angle camera? Next Apple standalone display?
By the way, regarding MacBook displays being too thin, I wonder if Apple will eventually give it a camera bump like on iPhones and iPads.

Considering that Apple seems to want to put Center Stage in all of the iPads, I expect that they will put it in the Macs, but not until they can move them all to new designs. Assuming the new MBPs come out in the next month or so, we'll probably see then if they have given them cameras with sufficient pixels to handle Center Stage. It is possible that they may add some kind of bump or use a periscope lens to solve the problem of thin lids.

A more square design would also maintain volume closer to the edges, and make it easier to mount such a camera.
