I have Flip4Mac (paid version, $29 variety) installed on my PowerBook G4 and everything (browser plugins and all) works great.

I have Flip4Mac (free version) installed on my PM G5 and I can't get CNN or MSNBC video to work.

Based on this limited sample, you've got to pay to play.

Ok I have a few issues too with Flip4Mac windows componentes (note I dont have the upgraded version) I was surfing on one of the korean sites and I couldnt get the stream to work ! So what now ? I mean there is only a white windows playing nothing how can I make this work? any cool-no-problem-plug-in? ^^help is appreciated
You should probably download the upgraded version then.
If you find sites that don't work, Flip4Mac has a feedback form on thier site, and you can tell them explicitly what site is not working, maybe they can contact the vendor. That being said, Korean sites are gonna be trouble. Most use a combination of active-x plugins + windows media that won't work on anything but windows internet explorer.

Why anyone would use active-x instead of pure java, or ajax is beyond me, but thats the way it is....

You might, if desperate, use crossover for mac and install internet explorer 6. Might work, might not.

Flip4Mac works fine for me. I haven't noticed any sites not working that used to work with Windows Media Player. There are the usual list of sites that use Microsoft's DRM and Microsoft should have to face another anti-trust suit for refusing to make some of their technologies available on competative platforms but I guess it will happen right after Apple licenses fairplay for other .mp3 players besides the iPod  .

On the bright side, I noticed that MTV's Overdrive site is now working with the Flip4Mac plugin. That is awesome, I always wanted Yahoo! Music or MTV or VH1's video site to work on my Mac and now one of them does!

Well the one way or the other we will buy the Flip4Mac upgraded version, I can use it and my ma too. But I will never install Internet Explorer on our Macs, only if there is no other real choice but the developers from Flip4Mac will improve the software over time and some day every site will work:cool: That I am sure of. ^^Thanks guys

Back to the BBC debate....

sorry to come in a bit late.....

I use flip4mac (on ppc) and watch a lot of BBC footage. When was this latest update to f4m?

I was watching the most recent episode of extras this morning! It would be really bad news to lose the BBC!

The free player (version 2.1.0.33) plays only certain video content on the BBC. For example, I can watch the constantly streamed headline news right now, but can't watch last night's 10 pm news bulletin.

Hey I just tried MSNBC and the videos worked fine, CNN I do not know.
It seems that from system to system its different somehow. The license code for Flip4Mac is multiple right, meaning I can use it on the iMac and Macbook, correct?

It seems like MSNBC uses Flash 8 and not WMV, which is odd considering the "MSN Video" logo on the top left corner. I'll uninstall and reinstall Flip4Mac to see if I can get CNN to function on my G5 tower.

I don't know what the license terms are but I remember there being an online authentication (phoning home) upon registering the serial.

Seems to work fine for me on an Intel iMac, the only problem I had was streaming Sirius, it would get all the way to the right, and start over again, but I fixed that last night by selecting the "Create Streaming Movies" option in the prefs. As for WMP, it along with the plugin is a PPC app. It doesn't work right on Intel, unless you wan't to set Sarfari to run in Rosetta, which somewhat defeates the purpose of buying an Intel iMac.
