I've got my iMac picked out, but I want a vanilla install of Lion and not have it come with Snow Leopard and then upgrade.

From your prior experience/knowledge, how long did it take for Macs to start coming with the new OS after its launch?

If it's from the online Apple store, I would think all new Macs would ship with it. I think by August all new Macs should come with it. Best way to find out is to contact the store you're interested in buying it from. Enjoy your new iMac (when you get it)! :)

I'll be buying it online as a built to order.

it was stated in the conference call that as of tomorrow all hardware will be shipped with Lion.

Where can I read this at?

I'm interested in this as well. I'm going the same route as you. I plan on ordering a BTO iMac tomorrow in hopes of having just Lion.

They already do, and have for a while. Since the Lion announcement you get to download it free.

I ordered mine on sunday it says prepared for shipment im hoping mine comes with it so I dont have to install when I get it.

Best to wait another few days before ordering as there may be some inventory in que which still has SL.

Just wait a week or so if you can to be safe and clear out any old inventory.

Also, check this site at the end of the week for threads from new buyers to see what they got.

That is the only way to be 100% sure - also you can always ask at your local Apple store if that is where you plan to buy from.

Personally, I would wait at least a week to see if there are any problems, it is not always wise to be the first to buy a new anything unless you really need it now.

It says you have got to go through the up to date programme

Sorry but when you are spending this type of money you expect it to come with lion dont you?

I don't want to. I want a vanilla Lion install on a $3,000 machine.

I understand and personally would prefer to do the same - just plug in and go. As I mentioned above, just wait a week or so. Of course a $3,000 imac would be a loaded BTO iMac so my guess is the BTO would have Lion installed as opposed to stock models at the store.

Personally, I am in no rush to upgrade to Lion. I am totally satisfied with SL and also prefer to wait and see if there are any issues.

I just got off the phone with Apple Customer Support and the lady I talked to said that all new BTO iMacs as of today will have Lion on them.

is magic trackpad considered BTO iMacs? HAHA

or am I wishing too much?
Don't want to wait for an extra week (at least) to get plain vanilla Lion!

I ordered a custom iMac 2 days ago. It hasn't yet been shipped (at time of order, shipping estimate was 1-3 days). I ordered hoping to actually get a Mac with SL installed instead of preloaded with Lion. It'll be very interesting to see how it comes.

If it comes with lion, it comes with lion. Not a big deal but I figured if I had the choice, I'd wait till 10.7.1 to make the jump to lion.

What do you guys think? Will I possibly get snow leopard?
