I ordered a custom iMac 2 days ago. It hasn't yet been shipped (at time of order, shipping estimate was 1-3 days). I ordered hoping to actually get a Mac with SL installed instead of preloaded with Lion. It'll be very interesting to see how it comes.

If it comes with lion, it comes with lion. Not a big deal but I figured if I had the choice, I'd wait till 10.7.1 to make the jump to lion.

What do you guys think? Will I possibly get snow leopard?

You will probably get snow leopard since at the time of purchase it said that the machine comes with snow leopard. If they don't it's false advertising (I believe).

Had online chat with apple specialist and he confirmed as of today all new macs would ship with it preinstalled.

According to the sign I saw at at the Buffalo Walden Galleria Apple store this morning, as of today all retail store Macs will be sold with Lion installed. All the demo Macs in the store, including iMacs had it installed.

I ordered mine on sunday with BTO options 27" imac 3.4 it has been prepared for shipment since yesterday I really hope Lion is on here.

I've had 5 conversations today with random Apple Online Chat and they said the opposite
Either you're a troll or you have way too much time on your hands.

You've already invested way more time into this than it would take to do a clean install of Lion on your new machine.

If really want to be sure, just wait a few weeks until old stock is depleted.

I'm waiting to order a 27" iMac with Lion preinstalled too... according to Apples own website, iMacs still ship with Snow Leopard:
http://www.apple.com/why-mac/compare/desktops.html

I think once the previous stock is shifted, Lion will come pre-installed (probably in a week or so)

When you order online, they actually work on your machine before they ship it to you. I got to know this because the two Macs (one was from the factory and the other from the warehouse) I bought online all came with my name entered into the Macs.

Therefore, after the release of Lion, all Macs ordered from the online store is shipped with Lion preinstalled.

However, those ordered before the release of Lion should be shipped with Snow-Leopard preinstalled. If Lion was released at the time of shipment, a USB stick with Lion might be put in the box.

How sure are you about the Lion's USB stick and those pre-installed Macs?

I've never heard of anything like that... I've ordered several macs directly from apple in the past and they have never had my name already entered into them!

I also can't imagine the logistical nightmare of doing this for the tens of thousands of orders apple process every day...

I brought my imac today July 31, but it came with SL. The CSR told me I can download Lion OS when I get home, but he never mention anything about the extra $30 that I need to paid in-order to get the upgrade............................. This is so depressing........

No, they don't. The first thing you do is enter your apple id. From that, they fill out your name and other fields for you.

Custom iMacs shipping with lion art and OS

Ordered a custom 27" July 29th - delivered Aug 2end and came with Lion artwork on the box and Lion OS and keyboard

I ordered a standard spec iMac from the online store on Monday (8/1). It arrived today...with Snow Leopard. They also screwed up and sent me a magic mouse instead of the magic trackpad that I requested.

I would keep it with SL and have them send you a magic trackpad. They should let you keep the magic mouse. I think it's better to have SL since you get Lion for free. If you have any issues with Lion you can always go back to SL. If you get an iMac with Lion you can't install SL using the retail copy since it's 10.6.3. You will need 10.6.6 or higher which only comes with 2011 Macs.
