Yep an iPad Air 7 with Promotion, probably 256 GB base storage and the M4 chip will be very enticing for a lot of people if under £600.
Yes please! I have a 2018 iPP which is getting slow and do not want to pay £1,300 for the M4 (soon to be M5) 13in iPP, not to mention I get headaches from the tandem OLED.

With the iPhone 17 regular model getting it… hope is stronger than ever. But never guaranteed. iPad is a slower moving, less worried about competition, device compared to the iPhone line.

Base iPad will never have 120hz, if not for 84 years.

iPad Mini won’t be for some time. But I believe Apple would either give the Air before the Mini 90hz or both at the same time. But first OLED Screens for the Air/Mini

But an even better question is when the iPad Air gets a flash camera. That will further make people know that it’s a new iPad Air because base iPad/iPad Air look the same and a camera flash will change that (like the iPad Mini)

This is an inane thread. The base models will get upgraded specs simply when it becomes financially expedient to do so. However for now the profit margin is right and the market expectations for a ‘base’ tablet do not include high refresh displays. You can’t compare the fact that the phone has a high refresh rate display as the economics for the 2 obviously different sized screens are different.

You want the nicer stuff? Pony up more $$ , not that hard to figure out.

I can't for the life of me figure out why anything with 60hz or above should feel sluggish. That's the shutter rate of a TV-Camera and well above anybody's perception rate

That's not correct - you can absolutely see above 60fps, and it's very easy to tell between 60fps and 120fps.

- do the news or live sport feel "sluggish"? Really, in the movie business, we avoid anything above 24fps because it feels cheap and like a soap opera - but that's an aquired taste, if you watch closely you can see the background strobe on a lot of pans. Either way, 60fps should be enough.

The good thing about ProMotion is it doesn't just do 120hz, it matches the content. If you're watching 24fps video the display will go down to 24hz.

If anything, there's a lag in iOS, because liquid glass is so bloated, or Apple has made animations slower. But 60hz alone won't feel "sluggish". At most you would see it slightly choppier if you look at it from
the corner of your eyes.

It's different when you are actually touching the display and swiping things around. The difference in response time when you are manipulating it directly with your fingers is very perceptible.

But even if you're using a mouse and keyboard you can absolutely see and feel it.

Whether or not it's worth the extra money is debatable, but this idea of yours that it's not really noticeable by the human eye is just wrong.

I don't think so. At a certain point display technology moves forward enough that Apple may as well just put 120hz displays in some of the lower models as well because the economics and logistics are there.
