When will my 2016 MBP stop receiving security updates?

As per the title. 13" base spec fn-key model if that helps.

What are the risks of carrying on using it after it's no longer supported by security updates? I know there are many who use older machines daily.

As I understand it generally a little less than two years after the final OS upgrade that the machine can accept. Clock is ticking on our 2015 iMac as there is zero chance I'll let my wife continue using it after we no longer get security patches.

Subbed. I'm running a 2012 rMBP and an ancient 2010 17 inch MBP for basic web surfing and am curious if I should retire those machines if we are to use it for something as simple as online purchases even with firewall enabled.

I think Apple gives around 3 years of updates (macOS Catalina stopped getting security updates last year, so 3 years). The same thing for macOS Mojave which stopped getting updates in 2021. So I think you should be good until 2024 ish.

If the browser still gets updated that might make it fine and act as a kind of first line of defence? Although I hardly know anything about security.

The 2016 MacBook Pros (including my wife's 15" model) are stuck on Monterey. Ventura doesn't support them. So generally we can expect another year of security updates for Monterey. Possibly two.

If your 2016 MBP 13" 14nm is up to 2021 macOS Monterey then add 3 years relative to it. So by 2024

I expect it to occur within the 1st 9 months of 2024. So you have over 1 more years to go.

I'd only replace it to a Mac model that was released after the final Security Update was released.

So that is the last 9 months of 2024.

You'd be jumping from 14nm model to a 3nm.

I'd go with a early 2024 MBA 13" M3 or mid 2025 MBA 13" M4 as its replacement.

I'll be quite excited to go from 14nm to 3nm. The difference will be monumental.

I'd be looking for a larger display, so either the 14" MBP or hope they release a bigger MBA.
