I know the iMacs just got refreshed, but I'm unsatisfied with the 21.5" getting shafted with no Quad Core or video input. These are features I want in a small package. The 27 is far too big for my needs. It is frustrating to me that you can't even build one with quad core.

I guess there's a good reason for this - probably not enough room for the cooling solution required by the quads.

good point. i never thought that it was technically not possible to put the quad core into the 21.5". i always assumed that it was Apple forcing consumers to upgrade to the 27 and pay more to get such features.

Well.. if you give it some thought, they would have more room to fit these things in the 27" model, and I think it's also because they wouldn't want a smaller system to overheat too much.

that's really the only reason I can think of

Honestly, there's no reason at all the 21.5" iMac can't have video-in capability except for the fact that Apple want you to buy the 27" iMac and are using this functionality as a differentiator in order to get you to spend the extra cash. They do this sort of thing all the time (think back to the backlit keyboard on the base 15" Unibody MacBook Pro when it first debuted for example)
