Having an outdated phone, yeah, that's probably one of my biggest fears in life too.
Me too, I wake up at night screaming thinking Im still using a blackberry.
Then I look at my 4S charging on the table.

The iPhone 4 features the "Apple A4" SoC chipset (based on a stripped down 1 GHz Cortex-A8), while it sounds similar to what's in the 3GS, it is considerably different... and every teardown and benchmark site will tell you the same.
There's also double the RAM (256MB 3GS vs. 512GB i4).

You lucky B. I dream about a 4S, but when I wake up it's still a 3GS lying on the bedside table![]()
I'm only hoping for an iPhone 4 at this point. When I first saw the 4S and Siri I was really amazed, then I watched how it was developed and was like "eh, I could go without it"
So wait, the iPhone 3GS and 4 have the same processor but the iPhone 4 has RAM that makes it run faster? What does the 4S differ from the 4 besides Siri then?
There are so many people claiming no iOS 6 for 3GS. Wrong for two reasons. Apple will still likely sell the phone up to the release of ios 6. Apple has a track record of support that would indicate they don't intend on frustrating so many recent customers. Second reason is that we have seen how apple treats this type of situation with iOS 5 on the 3G. They will intentionally omit features that they feel hinders the speed/experience. There were some mistakes made with iOs 5 on 3G that I'm sure they learned from.
And most importantly, no one has a solid clue of what iOS 6 will even bring. Unless we see an update to the whole multitask system or something like active widgets, it is not likely to be a much heavier burden on the iPhones' systems.
Apple's track record of supporting indicates that the 3Gs will be EoL when iOS 6 comes out. And since when do "they don't intend on frustrating so many recent customers"? Apple's been doing that for years. Good reason number 2. The iPhone 3G never got iOS 5, just the the 3Gs will likely not get iOS 6. But remember, the iPhone 3G was using 1st generation hardware inside, where the iPhone 3Gs is using 3rd generation hardware. (I'm not talking about cellular radio hardware.)
I'm still using a 3gs and it works great with ios 6.
