Can anyone tell me when the real upgrade will come? Quad core, etc, possibly i7?...
Yes. They are coming in days.
Lots of days.
Give it a chance .... they only just unveiled new ones today ... not anytime soon ... Given the prices of the current systems, adding core i7 would push their prices too high ... Apple's iMac has never been about performance anyway ...
Releasing a Core i7 iMac at the same time as the Mac Pro would have seriously affected sales at the top end.
I'll be pulling the trigger on the latest iMac, safe in the knowledge that by the time that has been retired, the 8 core iMac with OS X 10.8 would probably be out and application development for multi threaded applications will be nicely matured.
Between then an now, I expect a slow transitional period and buying hardware too soon for software to take advantage is premature in my opinion. Sure Snow Leopard will help things out in the near term, but developers will need time to adopt this technology. Adobe has yet to release Photoshop to the best of Leopards abilities!
I'm not asking for commentary. I'm asking when the next generation of mobile CPUs will be ready for use with these machines. Since they clearly don't want to use even a 20 watt increased CPU I guess they will stick with mobile..
They will certainly be coming sometime in the future - I guarantee it.
I was thinking the same thing, these changes didn't seem that huge. But idk, I haven't looked at them too much.
SteveMobs - Awesome username. Simpsons fan or just fan of the mock name?
Give it a year or two.
