if your experience is as good as mine, it will be flawless! tungsten E is a great choice!
I have been using my E all afternoon, and it has been going wonderfully. It took me a little while to figure out how I wanted all of the sync software and everything else to work, but I've pretty much got everything up and running now. This is a great PDA for Mac. Everything is almost seamless.

Recently bought my mom a tungsten E for her birthday (she was using an old bw model). I have never really used one before, but after setting it up for her, thought that if they could add wifi (without the card) I would buy one. Add the widgets and you have the new ipod.

Have you looked into getting 'the missing sync'? It alows you to surf the web over bluetooth. I am thinking of a T5 myself. The way I see it is if Apple do bring one out, it will be out of my price range - $500 au max.

Well, I don't have bluetooth capabilities at the moment, so I've had no need for it thus far. If I ever do get a hankerin' for bluetooth, I'll be sure to look into it. I actually was looking at the Missing Sync when I was looking at the Sony Cliè, before I bought my Tungsten.

Love syncing my Treo 650 via BT, one less cable on the desktop.

Yeah, it would be nice, but the Tungsten E doesn't have it built-in. I'll have to buy an SD BT card as well as a BT adaptor for my Power Mac.

what?

I didn't hear anything about Clié.... mmmm... weird.... Sony Clié works as close as excellent with Mac.... way to go with The Missing Sync... it rocks.

I didn't have any trouble syncing my Clié and my Mac. I'm really curious why no one said anything about CLie.. cause I've heard that Clie was used to rule the market after their decision to close the PDA production.

Anyway... 5 stars to Clie and 5 stars to Missing Sync and 6 stars for MAc... the iPDA or iDay (great name) is a nice dream... a really faaaar dream... but who knows.. maybe someday in the 2130. ;)

A little OT, but PDA related:
Why do people choose Palm OS vs. getting a Pocket PC? Is it the sheer hatred for all things M$ or are there perks to having Palm I am just unaware of?

I also have a problem with finding valuable uses for a PDA. I had one of the Dell X5 PPCs when they first came out, neat little thing I used for a while, but even pre-notebook (which I thought for sure would rule the PPC out) I found the usage of said device to drop. I just find it hard to utilize them, writing is difficult which makes fast entry/recovery of notes and data tedious and long.

I like Palm OS for stability, more than anything else...i agree that it can be hard to justify using a pda sometimes, and i think that gets even more difficult when your pda crashes, runs slowly, etc. Pocket PC is, admittedly, the more advanced OS, it has multitasking built in pretty much since inception, etc. But you have to constantly monitor whether or not you closed a program, otherwise you might suddenly slooooow down or crash. For me personally, I always see the tradeoff as slower, more efficient personal info manager pda versus more geek-tastic pda with more stuff...and as much as more stuff is cool, i prefer the simplicity. Also, Palm OS has much more backwards compatibility, so you're more likely to use programs from device to device, which is always nice.

Sony dropped out of the USA handheld market 2-3 years ago. That's why hardly anyone still talks Sony, they willingly let their foothold drop.

I've used Palm products (Palm III, IIIe, M515, Tungsten T3) for years without sync troubles on my Macs.

I rely less and less on my PDA, using my PBook, iPod, and cell phone to track meetings and such. I doubt very much that there will be any new PDA device (like a Palm or an iPaq) on the market in five years' time. Cell phones and music players are converging from both sides and sucking up the low end PDA market in their vortex. The high end PDA market is getting challenged by newer, smaller laptops. Tablets have potential, but that market isn't developing all that quickly, and they might not even survive as a mainstream device. Sooner or later, someone will hit the sweet spot and produce a small, light, powerful convergent device that will wow the market. I suppose Apple has just as much chance of being that company as anyone else, but that device, when it comes, will not be what we think of today as a PDA.

Good thoughts, I would tend to agree with your future outlook on device lineup. With phones and music players having more and more features the uses of a PDA are dropping drastically. I was actually considering a tablet before I purchased my PowerBook (glad I got the PB) but they didn't seem mature enough and were lacking power and other features I wanted. On a note of interest, anyone else notice that in the television show "24" everyone at CTU was using HP TC1100 (or similar model) tablet pcs throughout season 4? I thought it was pretty interesting and in a business setting like that they actually seem like a pretty good idea. That is honestly the best applied use of a tablet I have seen to date :p

I have an older PocketPC and other than using it for mobile GPS when I travel long distances, it doesn't do much of anything for me now. The only reason I still have it is for the GPS, which even that is hardly ever used

Everything that I read about the Cliè indicated that it did not work natively with Mac. That was one of my deciding factors in going with the Palm, but it doesn't matter now. I love my Tungsten.

That's great to hear. I was debating between the Tungsten E and the Zire 71. I made the choice for the Tungsten, because it seems to have the edge on power. I'll let you know how it goes!

I too have the Tungsten E and love it. Syncs just fine with the Mac.

I currently have a Treo, which works nicely with my Macs. Before that I was using a Dell Axim and Pocketmac.

The Treo rocks for having the keyboard and the phone, but the Axim showed me that MS can make a REALLY good OS. The Axim was so much better.
