how has their response been in general?

I find that a lot of folks are saying it’s too expensive, and that it’s crazy I’m going to get one. Only one colleague is getting it and none of my family members (except maybe a cousin whose an Apple fan) is purchasing it.

I actually had a colleague scoff when he found out I was getting it. Not in a mean way, but still .

I usually avoid bringing designer purses to work for the very same reason. Or if I buy brands, I prefer to buy the ones that are a bit understated (Hermes leather versus LV’s monogrammed canvas).

Now I feel like iPhone X’s starting price point is going to drive the same type of awkwardness that a LV speedy would.

Yea I'm getting the 'I'd rather go on a nice vacation' etc etc comments.

Not really listening and jut tuning out ... still have plenty of time for vacation but now my pictures will look a lot better!

I’m getting the same. “It’s too expensive.” And a lot of people are saying they want to wait a year and let others try FaceID first.

We are doing Disney world in february and I absolutely want to have the X for the photo quality for that trip!

Yeah I’m kinda in the same boat. To be honest it’s really not THAT much of a difference in price than the 8, but the 4-digit starting price definitely puts it in the next level bracket. Most of my friends aren’t getting it even though I know they can all comfortably afford it. It can bring some unwanted attention at work as well.

I have friends/family/coworkers that all told me I was “crazy” and that it was “way too expensive”.

However these are the same people that spend ridiculous amounts of money on shoes, purses, concert tickets, sound systems for their cars, headphones (I have a buddy that dropped $700+ on a pair of headphones and all he does is casually listen to them from time to time at work), etc.

Point is, we all have our “luxuries” that we splurge on that make little to no sense to others. I’ve never let it bother me in the slightest.

I always get the “you spent how much on a phone?”

And I just laugh it off. 1) I get the latest iPhone every year & 2) it’s been rumored to cost $1,000 for months so it wasn’t a surprise to me when it came time to order lol

If it bothers you, remind them that it's only an incremental amount more than an 8 Plus especially considering that your existing phone has trade-in value.

I pretty much get the same response. They seem to think I'm rich since I just bought a new car and now I tell them I'm buying a $1000+ phone when really I just know how to budget my finances.

Actually ive been getting a "I knew you'd be getting one, when is it shipping?" question, when I say launch day there is shock and awe as they tried to get one for launch but failed. When I tell them I have 2 for launch day the awe turns to hate.

Have had one of 2 people say its too expensive, I just reply "Not for Me" to them.

People will pay $300 for a pair of sneakers, $800 on a purse, $200 on a pair of sunglasses but won't pay $1000 for a phone that literally does everything. The people I have told are getting it themselves, why? Because they understand that $1000 is very reasonable. My girlfriend said she wants to keep her iPhone 6s that she has because she isn't into technology like I am, and doesn't feel the need to upgrade. THAT is a reasonable answer. These people complaining about the price are the biggest hypocrites on the face of the earth. Either that or they just have no idea how technology works. I'd expect my 80+ year old grandma to complain about it, not a 30 year old.

It's one thing to say you can't afford it, but it's a completely different thing to say the price tag isn't reasonable. Because it definitely is.

All my friends and co-workers know I'm a complete gadget nerd. My Pixel XL currently holds the record as the phone I've owned the longest (1 year).

Honestly, I've parlayed my knowledge of the latest trends in tech into helping my career significantly. Now I'm the first one people come to to ask my opinion on the latest trends from mobile, AI to Blockchain.

They’re used to me getting the newest iPhone. I’m the tech geek in my circle, so I’m the one who tends to care/pay attention/buy the newest thing. I’m not the only one, but they know iPhones and technology are my thing, so there’s no surprise that I stayed up late to order the phone.

The funny thing is that my MBP is seven years old, and my iPad is several generations old too. So I do splurge on iPhones, but not on everything.

I haven't cared! I'm not paying $1000 for the phone since I am on the AT&T Next every year plan. The entire purpose of going on that plan FOR ME was because I know I like having the newest iPhone and being able to upgrade every year was perfect. As someone else has said, I don't have kids or anyone else to provide for so I'm just living my life! Still going to be able to go on vacations and do other things as well. $1000 is a lot for a phone, no argument there, but as I stated before I upgrade every year not every 2 years so I'm not actually paying $1000 for the X.

a mate at work spends £200 a month on a bike so to me this is worth the money more than what he pays and doesn't even use it as much as he should

me paying £87 a month is no different to somebody going out drinking twice a month and spending 80 quid all night and I'm not bothered about doing that anymore

This may sound a little dickish, I truly don't mean it to be. My family, on both sides has worked hard and is doing pretty well financially, so we all ordered them outright. It's one of the few tech splurges of the year we all make, and we all try to be responsible for the most part. It's expensive, but its something we all use on a daily basis, so the cost does not outweigh the benefits if you can afford one.

I don’t care too but I guess it’s a bit awkward because then I get the “how can you afford that” and such. But I’m not married, no kids. I figured I could live a little :D.
Pure jealousy. They live their life the way they want. Why don’t you tell em they stupid to have those expensive kids. See how they react to that.
Not comparing iPhone to kids so don’t respond with that nonsense. What I am saying they should keep their comments to themselves. Your money, your choices, your life. Bet any money they be annoyed if you dissed their choices.

Family and friends will ask me why I'm willing to spend that much on a phone to which I will respond... Well, what's the difference between me getting a phone and someone spending money on booze, cigarettes, nights at the club, cars... I could go on.

I do so much with my phone. It's my pocket computer. I have no issues spending my money on something I like and want.

First, I usually don’t tell most people when I’m purchasing or doing anything that would seem expensive to them. Doesn’t matter if it’s family, friends, or co-workers.

The few times someone asked how I can afford something, I would just say something like, “Oh, I’ve been saving a while for it” or “wow, this email came for a sale and I ended up getting a really great deal!” I say it whether it was true or not and I don’t go into details. Not their business.

When people make the remark of something being too expensive and I don’t agree, I either don’t say anything beyond disagreement or say something along the lines of, “well, I guess I better get to saving!” or “Hopefully some really great deals come my way.”

Some people just like being in other people’s pockets too much for me, especially co-workers. They like want to know if you’re getting paid more than them or not I guess. Most just need to get a life.
