Where 90s a better time?

Is it just me but have the quality gone way down? The vehicles of the 90s and before had way more conformable seats than vehicles today?

The food was better in the 90s compared to day. Yes going on air plane the seats where bigger and more conformable compared to today. Well today the seats on air plane are just terrible now.

The food on the air plane was way better in the 90s compared to day.

The only think I did not like about the 90s was vehicles broke down way more and computers only had life expectancy of two to three years.

Hell yeah! Fresh out of school. The daily grind hasn't beaten me down yet. I hadn't sold my soul to Corporate America yet. The 90's were awesome. But then the 80's were better. Leave the house at 7am, meet up with friends, come home at dinner time.

Er...what? My '99 Taco has horrible seats compared to a new Tacoma.

Yarp. But then food in the 60's was better than in the 90's. There was far less processed food the further back you go. Today's food is mostly processed.

90's cars were easy to work on with some much room to poke around in the engine compartment. People routinely changed their oil at home. Lots of folks worked on their cars under a tree. Those were the days. Today, you have to remove 2 dozen screws, drop the splash plate before you can see the oil filter.😵
and computers only had life expectancy of two to three years.
Yarp. Computers in the 90's sucked. Especially Mac😑...before Steve introduced us to the bondi blue iMac.🥳

I just miss having neighborhood BBQs, squirt gun fights with friends, sleepovers, Nickelodeon (and Snick), Beavis & Butt-head, Howard Stern, etc...

The 90's were okay. Music was better in the 80's though.....Gone down hill ever since. Glad I have more decades behind me than in front the way thins are going.....

I was a kid in the 90s. Playing baseball with the neighbor kids at the end of the street until street lights came on, going bike riding, kind neighbors with swimming pools, spending long hours reading encyclopedias, and ... yes, car seats seemed more comfortable because I was a lot smaller back then (I imagine).

We didn't go out to eat a lot in the 90s but when we did, a lot more thought and effort seemed to go into food vs these days, and it was as lot cheaper.

I remember, as a kid, being gifted an airplane model or pilot wings by the stewardesses the few times we went flying - that was fun.

I remember cars breaking down a lot and same for our computers (486 to the Pentium II 233mHz days). Dad spent many late nights fixing the Oldsmobile family station wagon.

Search.com, AltaVista, AOL.com, the old NetZero (defenders of the free internet!) - the internet was a place of discovery for me back in those days. Learned a lot of what laid the foundation for who I am today. Nothing is better than learning things yourself - never stop learning!

Grew up listening to Star 98.7 and JackFM on the radio - I'm a big 80s music fan - the 90s stuff isn't bad. 91.5 Classical KUSC. Listening to AM radio for news was fun! KNX 1070 / KFWB 980!

Was the 90s better?
We weren't impacted or constantly outraged by social media. People seemed to be more friendly to their neighbors - more willing to help. You spent more time doing things you loved as you were bothered less by tech - a lot more time talking to people - really talking to them.

Depends on what you value. And be careful comparing a nostalgic childhood then with 'in the trenches' gritty adulthood now. This is a personal tech. related forum, and that 'world' has come very far indeed since the 1990's.

Grabbed from search results:

"World Wide Web: Released for public use by Tim Berners-Lee at CERN in 1991."

"DVD (Digital Versatile Disc):
Standardized and introduced in 1995 to replace VHS tapes."

"Wi-Fi: Developed and branded in 1997 for wireless local area network communication."

"Digital Camera / Camera Phone: Early digital consumer cameras and Sharp's first commercial visual-phoned device arrived in the late 1990s."

Basically, a number of things I really like either didn't exist or came out then, and thus were in their early stages.

Case in point, I couldn't have quickly and conveniently 'for free' done an Internet search to grab some talking points like I just did.

Where are you talking about?? I must have missed it
Which person and post? If me and mine, he asked if the 90's were a better time. Since a number of things I value either didn't exist or were in a much more primitive state vs. now, to me, no. But that depends on the value system you judge by.

There are pro.s and con.s. For example, take this piece:

Yes going on air plane the seats where bigger and more conformable compared to today. Well today the seats on air plane are just terrible now.

I recall long ago when planning a plane trip, we went to a travel agent of some sort.

Recently, we got back from a trip where I booked airfare, a cruise, multiple excursions and other add-ons online from the comfort of home. Judging from some quick online searching, booking airfare online for the public started in the 1990's (the later half). But I imagine Orbitz, Travelocity, Expedia and so on took some time.

Of course, there was quite a bit of progress over the course of the 1990's. Amazon came out during that decade.

So the 1990's were not 'better' in an absolute sense. Depending on what you value, there were things then you might prefer vs. now. But if a time portal to the 90's opened up, I wouldn't be eager to go through it (assuming I wouldn't be allowed to play the stock market with future knowledge).

I was born just after the tail end of the 90s, so I never experienced it myself. However when I was growing up, there were a lot of things around that were from the 90s, the vehicles my parents drove at that time, the decor of the old old house my family lived in, the appliances, etc.

I don't think it was objectively better or worse - it depends on what you value. For me? I miss the 2000s, and 2010s the most, it was the perfect balance between no internet and social media everywhere. Even 10 years ago Social Media, and Phones weren't everywhere like they are now.

we never recovered from 1995 and Judge Ito ineptness as a society and still feel the ramifications today.

other than that, in the 1990's we were more creative, we laughed more,
Music was much better and Les Montréal Expos played real baseball.
we did not need computers working as they do now, my Mac7200 was worth an hour of graphic design max,
then I would ride a bicycle, play softball dance in public halls and enjoy life.
-cellphone? forgetaboutit, dontchaknow!

the 1990 because humans used their directional signal while driving those cars.

my other post was deleted because.....umm, I have not found out yet.
therefore
there is too much drama and misrepresentation of words in this century.

we as humans, were more creative and human like back then.
and only spent minutes under an hour on our mac7200 computers performing graphic design,
then shut off, go out and enjoy the outdoors!

I think the thing that was objectively better, for the 1990s and all pre-internet everywhere eras, was human presence in situations.

People are enormously distracted all the time now and it has so many downstream impacts on mental health, attention span, ability to focus, relationship dynamics, on and on.

Leveling up from simply distracted, we also now have swaths of people flat out addicted to devices and screens. I experienced that in a relationship recently and it's absolutely a thing and a very troubling one.

1990:
phone answering machine: "..at the tone please leave a message
BEEEEP....click "yo, Bill .....Tina here, x the weekend plans, I'm going away with friends instead, loser
umm I know I live blocks away but we are el fin-to! oh I'd stop by now, but the restraining order I processed will get there first, have a great day....life!

2000ies"

Correct. You had addiction in the past too, in different form like alcohol, tobaco, smoking, drugs etc. but todays addiction to electronic devices and services seems more and more worse.
