This is so poor Apple made me think macOS would now have lots of iPad apps but so far a few came out on launch and now nothing what was the major point of it?

The gentleman behind PCalc noted that when he ported his iOS dice rolling app to macOS using the checkbox in Catalyst, the resulting app was not very "Mac-like" and he had to do a fair bit of massaging to the code to make it look and act like what would be considered normal (even acceptable?) for a native Mac app.

Marco Arment has also noted that his macOS version of his iOS podcast app (Overcast) is taking a fair bit of effort to make it work like a native macOS app, as well.

Since most of these developers will likely be charging money for their apps, they likely want them to look and act like native macOS apps to be acceptable to macOS users and it sounds like a Catalyst 1.0 direct port is not anywhere near that level of polish, as of yet.

I wish Apple would port the iOS Clock.app. I use it (timer and alarm) a lot. Having to pick up my iPhone is such a chore. ;)
I sent them a "feature request", I'm not holding my breath.

If you use the few that are available, you will quickly notice why there are not more of them. It's because some developers care for the quality of their products, and Catalyst simply isn't there yet.

Twitter constantly crashes and Jira works terribly on a desktop. There is clearly more to do than using a checkbox. Not that it's surprising that apps made for tablets don't work on desktops without work.
