After deciding to reinstall ML and doing so I can't find any of my external drives. All 4 of them are hidden. Only when I start in 1 of the others with Lion/ML do I see them.

Assuming you're talking about seeing them displayed on the desktop:
Go into Finder>Preferences>General and make sure External disks is checked.
This was changed in 10.6 (I think) as a default option to hide the Hard Drives and External Hard Drives
