Where are .pdf files saved?

I dragged a .PDF into iTunes and am now viewing it through iBooks on my 4S. Where are .pdf saved after bringing it into iTunes? If I copy a .PDF into itunes can i delete from my desktop computer? Do I now have two copies of the .PDF?

I don't know if your on a Mac or PC, but for a Mac it's

Macintosh HD> User> your account> Music> iTunes Media> Books

I don't know the path for PC.
