I remember in years past there'd be a ton of threads about scalpers at Apple stores lining up every morning and general hating on them, not to mention racial comments (since most were typically Asian).

So has Apple "solved" the problem via the reservation system and online sales or have they simply gone digital?

The phones were sent to China for sale at a profit. It is now readily available in China so no need for Scalpers. iPhone demand in China is also down.

outside of jet black, you can pretty much walk into any store and get a phone. It has been like this for a few years now, and the reservation system plays into that.

Friend just sold his jet black for $350 profit.

the only phone that has a high mark up. Are they even in stores yet?

I sold my 7 plus 32gb matte black for $1499 on eBay. $450 profit. I can't believe someone would pay nearly double retail for a phone!

incredible! Was this on launch day? I can pick one up at either of my local stores right now.

No one wants a 7. Everyone wants a Plus. I'm still fairly willing to pay $1000 or trade my 128 7 with cash for even a dang 32gb Plus. The Plus resale market is off the chains right now.

Yup. Bought at 3am and the auction ended at 10:30am launch day. It actually sold for $1524 but that person was a bum bidder so I gave a second chance offer to the next highest bidder and he took it. Perfectly played I suppose.

Verizon iPhone 7 Plus models are selling for quite the markup on Swappa, with a Jet Black recently selling for $1560.

I pre-ordered my wife an iPhone 7 but after seeing mine, she wanted the plus version. We went to Verizon this past weekend and they said they didn't even get the Plus models in the store and may not be there until later this year / early next year! I took that last bit with a grain of salt, but never the less, they are hard to get a hold of currently

Buyers in Singapore are taking in Jet black 7plus 256gb at $1850 and exporting them to Myanmar and Vietnam where they can sell each phone for about $3000-3400

China is old news now. The big money is in 3rd world countries who don't get iPhones in the first wave.

That sentence is a complete oxymoron.

There are the ultra rich elite who see the iphone as a status symbol . Money is no problem for them, so they are willing to pay insane prices to get them first. Same as what China was like before they became a first wave country

A lot of the early 6 sales ended up with ISIS and used to record executions. Maybe the 6s as well. A lot of other countries people pay cash and keep the phone for years until it breaks and so people who bought in the last few years aren't buying. And most sales in developing nations is cheaper phones. And apple has been increasing production.
