Apple has already missed several natural opportunities to introduce USB-C based Magic Mouse and Magic Keyboard. There was the M3 iMac update, the M3 MacBook Pro launch, and then again with the M3 MacBook Air. I'm beginning to think it just isn't a priority and we won't get them until iMac design changes.

I need new keyboard but hate to buy a lightning one only then to see it updated.

I can remember this forum years ago, when USBc was first introduced.

The common cry around here was (to wit), "USBa is dead!"

Well, that didn't happen.
(Reminds me of that idiot professor who wrote a book named "The End of History"...)

I'd like to buy a Magic Keyboard for touch ID on a Macbook in clamshell. I don't need to buy this week but how long do we think I should wait before giving up the wait and buying a lightning one?

At this point the "spring 2024" rumors are pretty much dead unless they are announced at WWDC but that is unlikely as there isn't expected to be any Mac hardware announced. Next opportunity would be the iMac or Mac mini update to M4 in fall (likely October or November) after iPhone announcements.

It's the same keyboard, only with a USB-C port replacing the Lightning port, I'm not sure why they'd wait for a media event to release such a small change. Although I think they waited until the Wonderlust event last Sept to announce the USB-C charging case for AirPods Pro, so I guess we will have to keep waiting :sigh:

I gave up and bought Magic Keyboard with touch ID and Lightning connector. I was sure that would precipitate them launching a new one the next week but no. That was 3 months ago now...

this is taking far too long, still no clue when the USB-C versions are out? I'm sure everyone is just as keen as I am to dump these lightning cables for good
I bought a little USB-C to Lightning adapter off Amazon so I can periodically charge my Lighting devices but get rid of the Lightning cables themselves from my desk. Working well so far.

I'll never buy another lightning accessory at this point.

In terms of the keyboard I don't care if there are any changes except the port, it's fine as it is, just hurry up and release it so I can buy it.

Magic Mouse though - it needs a redesign along with the move to usb-c. And I'm not one of those Magic Mouse meme haters either. I can say it's way better than the hate would suggest, but still flawed.

I hope they make it somewhat like a cross between a (white) Logitech superlight and the current Magic Mouse (with its amazing scrolling.)

Keep it ambidextrous, keep the charging port on the bottom, I don't care. Just make a it a little more comfortable and significantly lighter (after using the Logitech superlight the difference in weight is staggering.)

October 2024 and still waiting as well, it’s like they don’t want our money….

I haven't bought a USB-A device in years and don't know anyone who has. Besides, what does this have to do with Lightening, which Apple has obsoleted nearly everywhere else?

I suspect it won't happen, but then again I don't have backlit keys on any of my keyboards.
I will not use a keyboard that is not backlit. So, Apple loses a sale with me, for sure. Their keyboard is a sad pathetic joke in 2024. Thank God that Logitech makes a keyboard that is 50 times better in every way. Backlit baby!
