I just dropped something on my poor baby (the top of Mac Pro, not the door slot on the side) and got some scratches. I know it's detrimental but I would want to know if there is a case for it.

My spec is as per my signature below. I hope it's around $100 as I don't want to replace the entire thing.

    Thanks a lot!

You can go to any Apple authorized service provider and ask for part number 922-9631.
This is the official replacement case for the 2012 5,1 and does not include a power supply.
Its also the same part listed for the 2009 and 2010 Mac Pro.

Pricing will probably be $400+, but its brand new.

Thanks...$400 is a bit expensive...But it will definitely make my Mac Pro brand spanking new...Maybe I'll do that in my 10th year anniversary (hope the part is still available by then though)...

It wont be, when the 2012 Mac Pro is marked obsolete by Apple, they will stop selling all replacement parts for it.

When do you project it to be announced as obsolete, by looking at past examples by Apple? Is it 8 years or something? Because it's only been 5 years since Mac Pro discontinued..

Then I should secure a case before...

The official documented policy is 7 years, which for the 5,1 would be 2012 +7 = 2019.

The 5,1 was originally launched in 2010, the 2012 wasn't really anything new. I'd say chances are it'll be marked vintage this year, which for the OP means it'll be harder to locate replacement parts. If you want a legit new case, buy it now while you can.
