Hey guys,

please don't kill me if this question has been asked tons of times, I searched with no luck...

Anyways, I've got 460 posts and I'm getting ready to finally have an avatar!! But where can I find some cool, moving ones? Google hasn't been kind to me on this issue... ideas?

I don't what you typed in, but I'm sure getting some funny stuff for avatars with Google :p :D I've actually seen some avatars from here.

Anything in particular you want for an avatar? :)

Well I did a search for Apple themed avatars and the first link that came up was MacRumors. There are some there, but not sure what the policy is for using them.

To continue what treblah said, avatars must be no larger than 75x75px or 19.5KBs or smaller. So you probabably won't be able to have very elaborate animated avatars.

I wouldn't consider it polite to use somebody else's avatar, even "borrowing" one from one forum system to use at another forum system. You could ask permission from that member, I guess.

The forum rules about avatars are that you can't impersonate another member, can't use one that will cause confusion (which would likely apply if you used one exact the same as another member), and that the content can't be profane, threatening, annoying (e.g., too quickly animated), and other commonsense limitations.

If you aren't feeling up to inventing and creating your own from scratch, I suggest describing an idea you have for your avatar and letting other members make suggestions or do some of the graphics work for you. Many members here have helped others with avatars in the past.

I like the Crow, so I found an image somewhere and cut it down on my PC in Irfanview. I could be more creative I guess. But I don't want to be.

Boo-urns! ;)

Just find a pic you like (preferably square-ish), upload it to Flickr and grab the 75x75 sized one for your av.

haha the great simpsons reference has convinced me to just use a picture for my avatar. at least until i figure out how to make an avatar myself... thanks guys!

Well what sort of thing were you looking for? (theme)

Animated avatars are often rather annoying but there's some subtle ones out there that are fun.

Hot kissing avatars are also always good.

hah yeah i don't want to steal an avatar! maybe i'll make my own...

Can I make one without photoshop? PS is SO EXPENSIVE!

I'm a Photoshop user, but it should be pretty straightforward to do it in GIMP.

It's a little ironic that I saw this post comes up now, as my next post will be number 500....

Anyway, as Wildcowboy says, using GIMP or another similar image editor should be easy enough if all you want to do it create or edit an avatar.
