check apple's online refurbished store. check resellers like powermax.com (i've bought most of my macs there). check frys, best buy... they often have deals, or refurbished models (or if you're ok with it, floor models)...
I remember when BHPhoto had 2015 MacBooks for $749 or something a few weeks before Black Friday/Cyber Monday last year. That hurt soooo bad.

Absolutely. I've bought and sold there for the last 4 years (basically since it started). Great system! And they keep adding to it.
Check Best Buy. They always have Apple laptops for sale at about $100-$200 less than Apple. You can also use those $20-50 off coupons from Best Buy.
You'll get the best deal by waiting a few weeks for the update to be release, then buying.
Best Buy open-box deals are great -- that's how I bought mine. Saved about $300.
