Where does Apple get refurbished macs/ipods?

    it from people who trade in their computer or ipod so yes they have a buyback program

    For the most part, they are units that Apple has repaired. Note that they come with the same warranty as new units.

    They're the items that people return to them, often because they have a fault or something. Apple repairs or replaces the affected parts and sells the product on at a reduced price.

    Apple does not have a buyback program. Try eBay, Craigslist, or give it away on FreeCycle.
