Where does it save phone numbers to?

I just got my iPhone 3GS from AT&T. On my old phone, all the numbers I added saved to the phone memory, not the SIM. On the iphone, where do the numbers save to by default, phone memory or SIM?

The memory on the phone. You should also sync these to your computer and/or email service so that you always have a backup of them.

I save mine to Google Contacts via Google Sync.

The phone memory. There isn't a way to save to the SIM.
