How do you restore Finder after executing the Terminal commands?

To get rid of the icons on the desktop simply open a new terminal window and type

defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles FALSE
killall Finder

and it will set the invisible files that were showing on the desktop and in the finder window back to invisible.:)

Hey there, I came looking for answers about where to find the ipsw file, so I tried all the routes you suggest and finally I found it

I'm on a 10.5.8 and I did this:

Open a terminal and type:

defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE
killall Finder

After that go to:

~username/Library/iTunes/iPhone Software Updates/

you will find there both 3.0 and 3.0.1 files, copy to any folder you like and that's it.

Ps. If you can't cd to iPhone Software Updates, try typing iPhone\ Software\ Updates/

Hope this help!

I've done this, still couldn't find the folder this way.

I'm now stuck with all sorts of files showing all over the place, often titled icon and .DS_Store

How do I reverse what happened?

I'm honestly lost!!

Honestly, I can't figure out where it is!! I'm jailbreaking with redsn0w, but it's asking for the ipsw, and the thing is, I can't seem to find the folder you're telling us about!! All I have is: Contacts, Desktop, Downloads, Favorites, Links, My Documents, My Music, Pictures, Saved Games, Searches, Tracing, Videos. What's up with this?

Still Good! ;)

Just repeat, but replace TRUE with FALSE

e.g.,

defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles FALSE
killall Finder

:D

read the threads most of you are right and wrong

it is a hidden folder and you can edit the file and copy it to the folder and itunes will use it the only catch is that you have to see what i itunes tries to download first if its the same version u have then copy and paste if it isnt itunes will download the latest one im using windows 7 its located under appdata\roaming\apple computer\itunes\ipod software updates

i just copied the newest version of ios 4.3.3 for my ipod touch 4g and it worked perfectly without downloading a new one

For windows 7
C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPod Software Updates

How to Hide Hidden Files

PLEASE tell me how to make Finder go back to the way it was..

If you went into Terminal and typed:

defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE
killall Finder

to show all files, to hide them again is just as easy. Go back into the terminal and type:

defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles FALSE
killall Finder

This will hide any files that where previously hidden. Hope this helps :)

For windows 7
C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPod Software Updates

I'm using windows 7 and went through the sets to gain the IPSW. when redsn0w is processing firmware it it comes back stating it is unable to recognize specified IPSW. Can someone please help me with this issue?

Update iPad

I have an iPad2 with iOS 4.3.5. I want to update it to iOS 5.1.1 so it matches the other iPad2s in our school. When I connect it to iTunes it tells me iOS 6 is available. It won't let me Restore. Other suggestions?
