We were not happy with Samsung laptops. I will take an Alienware even if a Dell bezel cracked on me.
Ouch. When did you buy yours? Mine is very good. I was saddened that I couldn't expand it to 32 GB, but it wasn't a big deal. My only complaint about it like the Mac products, the underside gets very warm, near hot, when watching high resolution video or anything that taxes the processor. It's not very fun to use on cold mornings or night either until the frame warms up.

I think all our Samsungs broke one way or the other. Different models from their last years.

Beware the keyboard and unnoticed plastic.

Odd. They must have cheapened out in 2015. I've dropped mine a few time. Hardwood floors and tile. It has some scratches and a dent, but that's it. That's very sad to hear.

HP's new all metal laptop looks awful. The one with rose gold and black paint. Though that's hardly something to replace the MBP with.

We had models from several years until they stopped.

so before Depreciation hit and the resale value dropped for old MBP I sold my 2014 MBP for $1,300

But the new 13 Dual Core MBP even top speck is laughable.

Take a look at this

For a 13" it's amazing and for the price it can't be beat

how does the warranties work on this? does it come with 14 days return option? can I purchase 3 years of comprehensive warranty for around $100?

At first I thought someone resurrected a really old thread from 2005, because that is around when I last remember seeing Alienware compared to Macs.

Why do people keep picking lunky ass, heavy ass, 2-hour-battery having ass laptops and compare them to MacBooks. These are not in the same market. These aren't used for the same tasks.

That machine looks like it fell out of the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down ;)

If that's what you want, go for it and enjoy it, but I wouldn't use a machine that looked like that if they paid me to!
True. Not to mention the most glaring offence: these two computers are incomparable; one is a thin-and-light notebook while the other is an ultra-portable gaming laptop. The new Alienware does present a very good value for its CPU, graphics, and customization options, but at the expense of portability and battery life (think I saw a review that said it gets like four hours). This might be a great computer for OP, but for a person like me who doesn't do PC gaming, it's highly impractical.

Well, except it doesn't blow away the 15" at all except in GPU. It has the same CPU, slower SSD, way worse screen, and poor battery life. And best of all, this chunk of steel costs $2100.

But I mean, it's already been said: if you're in the market for this type of machine, you were never in the market for a Macbook. And if you're looking for a Macbook type experience, you wouldn't even give this machine a second glance.

How does it have a way worse screen? For photography and video editing maybe, everything else arguably better.

In case anyone is interested

http://www.laptopmag.com/reviews/laptops/alienware-13-r3-oled

My Spec is $1799 -$179 Dell Enterprise Discount for Federal Employees aka me. -$1,300 sale of my old 2014 MBP.

It's like spending so much money on a Ferrari La Ferrari $3 Million the MBP When for $1 Million you can get a superior Porsche 918 and it's faster aka the OKED Alienware 13.

Resale value aside, this analogy would be more appropriate: it's like the people who buy a base 911 Carrera for the 911 symbol and familiarity while the Cayman GT4 can be had for slightly less and way better performance for a specific duty with polarizing looks. But the two are clearly meant for different market and demographics.

Sometimes need dictates choices. It's a bit like saying you wouldn't be caught dead driving a truck. You end up looking more foolish trying to tow a trailer in your sports car.

- I don't think his point was that he wanted to tow a trailer with a sports car. Rather that he didn't want to tow a trailer at all.

If you're looking for a gaming PC there are a lot of them out there. I'm sure this is great for someone who wants to do a lot of gaming on the go or setup game demos kiosks at trade shows, etc.

But still the compromises it makes don't interest me in particular and would never take me away from the MBP.

The battery life is a major deal breaker, 4.5 hours with general usage? If gaming it will be much much less then right?

The size it too big, I'm sure it weighs a ton. The design is far too ostentatious to be used in many professional settings.

The MBP will most likely be "good enough" with the 460, and when Thunderbolt 3 eGPU enclosures come out that work with the MBP then I'd be able to do pretty much everything this computer does but have a much sleeker, lighter, professional looking machine when I don't need to do heavy game related stuff.

Apple have never had the bleeding edge hardware in their portables. They always go for a compromise between thinness, lightness, battery life, and specs. Likely in that order.

Historically that's always been the case. Always. Not everybody likes it, but it's always going to happen. I can appreciate people's gripes, though I'm not sure why they're surprised.

The price hike is most likely the shock. Top of the line mbp is $4300. That's crazy.

Yeah but the pricing was crazy when the rMBP was first introduced. The pricing was crazy with the first MBA. Crazy pricing for the first iPhone as well.

History will tell you what it needs to: the prices will plummet in time as they always have, once they've sorted out the manufacturing and cut costs. You're already getting fair savings on the new Touchbar Macs through Amazon and the laptops aren't even shipping yet.

Granted, high prices are always going to be a little disappointing, but it's nothing new.

In which case you would still understand why someone else would need and use a truck and it would not be the subject of insinuated ridicule.
