Coming from rural NZ, where people do tend to move quite a bit over the course of their lives, I was surprised to discover how little people in the UK move by comparison.
One guy I met had lived his life within 25 miles of where he was born. He used to race motorcycles, and had traveled to other parts of the country, and even to Europe, but just to the circuits and just for the races. Other than that he had not been anywhere. He just was not interested, happily so.
It is interesting, and pleasing, to see just a little over half of the respondents are North American. On a motorcycle forum I belong to Americans (many with attitude) outnumber all others about five to one.

The Black Country in the UK.

I was born in Kaduna, Nigeria. I bought my first Mac in Ottawa, Canada. I bought my second Mac in Edinburgh, Scotland. And I currently live and work in Bangalore, India.
Canadians tend to move a lot too. Though my brother-in-law still lives just a couple of miles from where he was born.
Several years ago I read a book about tracing DNA through generations. One anecdote was that scientists managed to extract DNA from an iron-age skeleton (iirc) found in Cheddar, UK. They found a relative living just a few miles away. His family appears to have never moved from that area.

When I joined this site, under different name back then, in June 2000 it was largely Americans. However, very early on there were a lot of people from Europe joining in and it looked to be evenly distributed, about 50/50 from I can guess.
These numbers don't reflect a lot of people from Asia and Australia yet I can come up with several off the top of my head. Anyway, MR has become quite global.
What also started largely as a teens/early 20s average age has become somewhat older probably averaging now in the late-20s by now. Many of the young people who would be that old by now have long left the site. As far as I know, from earliest days, Kainjow the moderator and myself are only original summer of 2000 members still here.

Grew up in a small town in Norfolk, U.K. and then moved to London to study. Never managed to leave it and now work in London. Most of my family still live in Norfolk though so I'm the only wanderer at the moment. 🙂
