I downloaded MainMenu which I guess helps clean up my computer a bit.

I repaired disk permissions and cleaned out the user and system caches. After this it recommended I reboot the computer so it did so for me. The computer restarted and the first thing on the screen (still up) is asking "where is system events?" with a list of Apps for me to choose.

Any help? lol.

I'm befuddled on the situation and could really use some help.

Sounds like it's trying to use AppleScripts System Events suite to do something. I'm not sure asking you to select an application makes sense though...

Not so much as Applications in terms of like iphoto, etc... but the list does include "colorsyncing" "keyboard scripting" "fontstyle scripting" url access scripting" "preview"....etc.

It also has the browse button allowing me to search ony my MAc where it would be...

..iono... help?

Great help!

On an iMac quad Core i7 with BT keyboard/mouse, (OS 10.6.2) I had just zapped PRAM and completed safe boot and then booted into usual start up mode. I got the prompt mentioned in this thread along with list of apps to search. Per info here, I browsed right to what mysterytramp suggested and all is well. Many thanks.

Thanks, Mystery Tramp

Thanks, Mystery Tramp

I had the same challenge, and I just followed the path you suggested and, Voila!, there was the item I needed.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge. It is appreciated.

And also thanks from me. I don't know what I installed or did, but Finder wouldn't release a USB drive and, out of curiosity, I found and killed a process using Activity Monitor--maybe I shouldn't have. That didn't solve the USB drive problem so I logged out. What followed was:

1. inability to log in (couldn't click my user account);
2. safe boot to admin account;
3. verify disk revealing problems with the boot drive;
4. boot to install DVD;
5. backing up bits of my drive that might not have been caught by time machine;
6. repair boot drive and repair permissions;
7. reboot to normal user account (which was finally working!);
8. the error message described in this thread;
9. googling the message, getting this answer, and finally having a working system again.

Google is your friend, and so is this forum.

sweet... fixed my problem too.

I got the "where is system events?" window after i cloned my boot drive and then restarted.

Me too. Right after I installed the cloned HD.

But I just clicked "cancel" and rebooted. The error has not appeared again, at least not yet. Should there be some concern now that something's not working right?

Is there a way to get that window to pop up again, so I can point it properly to /System/Library/CoreServices?

I got a "Where is System Preferences?" question as well. Seemed to be generated by Hyperdock at boot time. Just pointed to the apps folder and all is well
