Just trying to diagnose a problem here... and is it possible that the battery could make a high pitch humming sound?

    Unlikely.

The battery is housed behind the back cover, or underside cover.

Under the trackpad, and out to the left edge of the computer (if you're sitting at it using it). Batteries don't really make noise, even when faulty. More likely, you're hearing a fan, drive, or other component.

No, toward the front, under the trackpad/palm rests, as I said. The fans, vents, CPU and GPU are located near the hinge.
