Good point, hadn’t considered that. Still would have thought that they’d seed a release candidate.Probably holding for Vision Pro's international launch?
It's only been 3.5 months so hopefully not abandoned yet. I do think they are too slow to get out immersive videos, which would keep some momentum going. The apps seem to be coming along, rather impressed that Microsoft is supporting the platform with O365 apps. I expect they are learning how people are using it (or not) and will adjust their strategy like they did with Apple Watch. The VP experience has been so disappointing. It almost feels like Apple has abandoned it or treating it a hobby (along the lines of the early AppleTV).
I disagree. I'm loving it so far.The VP experience has been so disappointing. It almost feels like Apple has abandoned it or treating it a hobby (along the lines of the early AppleTV).
I think it's gonna be great. I actually agree with you, but what is WORSE is Apple dropped the ball about the EXPERIENCE of using it being like Star Trek (think: Tri-Comm holo commbadge/tricorder from Star Trek: Discovery or the crime computer interface in Minority Report)I don't think apple chose the right way in how they handled the post launch experience. As I said earlier: VisionOS 2 better be a banger, or Vision Pro might not get the chance it deserves.
You had me at Star Trek 🖖🤓I think it's gonna be great. I actually agree with you, but what is WORSE is Apple dropped the ball about the EXPERIENCE of using it being like Star Trek (think: Tri-Comm holo commbadge/tricorder from Star Trek: Discovery or the crime computer interface in Minority Report)
When they launched the Apple Watch they referenced a bunch of watch stuff...including Penny from Inspector Gadget. That resonated with me because I grew up with that show. I got the original Apple Watch on launch day. They should have done the same thing with the AVP. The demo in the store, quite frankly, does the headset a disservice. It's so controlled and doesn't allow the tester to fully experience what you can do. Part of that IS because the hardware is expensive-but they have insurance for such things. I've given this feedback to the (apparently!) dedicated AppleCare team at their HQ. The rep told me the feedback was useful and appreciated. I wouldn't be surprised if we see a big change/push at WWDC to reiterate just how damn COOL and USEFUL the AVP is.
This is an under-appreciated advantage of the AVP. Panoramic photos appear much more realistic than on a phone, tablet, or even a good monitor. They have an "I am there" feeling, and you don't need a recent phone to create them. They require a bit more time to capture, but it's worth the effort. You had me at Star Trek 🖖🤓
I agree. One of the first questions I asked even before we started the demo was whether I could load an app that I’m interested in (The Archive for Star Trek) or if it was a pre-set demo. So because it was pre-set I couldn’t try the app which was a selling point for me. They really emphasized the immersive content even though they didn’t have a lot of it. All that aside, I’m even more impressed with the VP than I thought I would be. I’ve been watching movies during the day and feel like I’m in a dark theater. The museum apps are excellent. I’m taking a lot more panoramic photos now. Just hoping for some useful upgrades and content in June!
Totally agree! I think because it’s so simple with no extra app or hardware required, that people take it for granted. I’m hoping to see if they expand on it either at WWDC or with the next iPhoneThis is an under-appreciated advantage of the AVP. What I’ve read from Gurman sounds like it’s mostly converting the rest of Apple’s iPad apps to be visionOS native (such as Calendar, Maps, Home, etc). IMHO, those should have been ready at launch. But better late than never I suppose.that’s why I don’t believe in visionOS 2.0 beta at WWDC.
There are ample reasons to want Apple to do more to enhance usability, but eye cancer?Yeah, but we need AVP essentials. For example when you take on your AVP, there is no possibility to Check notifications from your phone. No matter the spacial computing argument - but when I’m working on a Mac and some notification comes in - I can grab my iPhone and check it. No chance on the Vision Pro.
Why is the Mac streaming capped at 60fps? Eye cancer alert. Why can’t we use AVP in total darkness unless we put it on in light? Why battery drain? Why no folders? Why no iPhone/notification mirroring? Why no iPhone unlock when Vision Pro on? The list goes on and on. We desperately need VisionOS 2.0… im not going to wait until 2025 for this absolute basics.
I hope so too, but I am concerned. How can the visionOS 2.0 beta be coming next week if we still don't have visionOS 1.2?I really hope they deliver next week with visionOS 2. So much opportunity to add basic functionality, native apps, and usability improvements.
