Buy it from wherever gives the best deal (unsure if there are any deals right now). If all else is equal I prefer the Apple Store.
maybe you can hold off less than 3 months to get the latest iPhone... if not I'd just go to a local Apple store
Agreed. If the OP can continue using another phone until the next iPhone is released that would be my recommendation. If the OP has to absolutely have a phone now, the Apple Store is generally a good place to buy an iPhone from. That said, I usually always recommend buying directly from Apple whenever possible.
This shop might have a deal or two for you!
Only a fool would buy one now. The 8 is coming out in 16 months. Seriously, no-brainer.

That's just absurd. There's a difference in waiting 3 months vs waiting 16 months for the "8" as you say. If the OP does not absolutely need a phone right this second it's a reasonable suggestion for the OP to wait 3 months. Is the current lineup of SE/6S/6S plus bad? Absolutely not, it has a good processor, good graphics and 2GB of RAM. It performs well now and will perform well for years, but if I was entering the game today I would want to know Apple's release schedule.
Fair enough, but to be fair yours wasn't necessarily an unreasonable reply because in theory the 8 should be way better!

No way, the iphone 8S is just around the corner in less than 28 months.
I'd hold off for that, it will have way better internal things than the 8.
Like someone said, go where you'll get the best deal, or where you'll get the least sat hassle.
I just switched from AT&T to Verizon and bought a 6s+ and 6s there. They were (are?) running a deal where they send a $650 gift card to essentially make it a BOGO deal for new lines. They also have $300 off iPads when you buy a 6s(+).
As far as hassle, the Apple Store is great but the ones around me are ALWAYS packed. No matter what day/time. I seldom had a bad experience at the AT&T corporate stores and didn't have a bad one at Verizon.
