Where to Buy Cables From

I am going to need a couple of cables,immediately required will be a Firewire 800 to 400 Adaptor.

Do I need to get the official Apple adaptor,or would a cheaper version from eBay work just as well.

I suppose this question is good for all cables,or are there some where only Apple ones will do?

Problem is,if some instruction say's Hold down the Apple key,which one is that on a non Apple keyboard?
