It's just sitting on my desk at the office right now. When I get back to work Monday, if I have time, I'll probably start dismantling it to check the capacitors and anything else that may be wrong with it.

Fortunately, the G5s are not a pain to disassemble, unlike the White Intels.

maybe put an SSD in it (if it's possible; haven't looked at the feasibility yet) and to play SimCity 4 on it.
Yes, it's possible. It has a SATA I controller. For some reason, SATA III SSDs seem to have issues with this controller, so get a SATA II SSD.

Thanks again for the tips. I recently took apart my 2010 iMac and it wasn't that bad. Hopefully this won't be either.

I have no lines on the monitor did have to buy a power supply this year because of shutting down suddenly and yes I know they were defective from Apple. I understand from posts that I can just buy Leopard discs and wipe my drive and start all over and yes I know I would loose os 9 if I do this but I don't use any OS9 apps so I may do this until I can get an Intel iMac.

I shopped around and have not seen Leopard for less than $100. any tips to find it cheaper?
Thanks again All is good and I really don't need to wipe, so Leopard would just be fun.
Linda

Thanks for the information. I sure hope the motherboard is not the issue. I really don't want to do a total rebuild of it if I can help it. She didn't mention any lines on the screen so I hope that's good too.

About the only thing I want this for is to tinker with it a bit, rebuild it, maybe put an SSD in it (if it's possible; haven't looked at the feasibility yet) and to play SimCity 4 on it.

I bought it [SimCity] a while ago but it runs terribly on my Intel-based Mac's. I knew that was a major issue before I bought the game, but it was inexpensive and I wanted to see if I could tolerate the choppy play - I couldn't.

You can count on it. :)

I found one on eBay for about $65. Though buyer beware and read the description before buying.

I'm fortunate enough to still have my original retail version of 10.5 (and 10.6) on disc - which I will not part from.

Leopard seems to be quite the commodity these days. Amazon is selling it for $175!

I will supply Leopard and Tiger for those that need them. While I somewhat agree with Apple that they shouldn't carry the original disc software which came with our machines, they should at least provide copies of such discs for at least 7 years.

There is no reason why someone with say, a G5 dual core couldn't get the original disc software in duplicate form from Apple since it hasn't been past 7 years as of yet.
