You need to get an OEM version. Subsequent versions are only upgrades.

An OEM version can only legally be sold with hardware or under the System Builder program . There are loopholes, but its ugly side is it's only valid for the first machine installed on.

You can get it through your school or work for $9.75 if they have a licensing agreement with MS. Make sure to get the Win 8.1 64 bit upgrade (MAC edition) when you d/l it.
