Hi everyone,

I've never been comfortable with how far out the power cord sticks from my "new" iMac Pro 2017 27" refurb from Amazon. Is it possible to get a real Apple replacement power cord for this? I can't seem to find one when searching Amazon.

Also, are there recommended power strips for the iMac Pro 2017 27"? Mine is the one below by Plugable (just search this string on Amazon):

Plugable Surge Protector Power Strip with USB and 12 AC Outlets, Built-in 10.5W 2-Port USB Charger for Android, Apple iOS, and Windows Mobile Devices, 6 Foot Extension Cord

Plugable surge protector looks fine.

Can't help with the power cord.

Thanks!! How do I identify my model number on this refurb? There really isn't any place that I can see where the information shows up physically on the model itself, and looking in system information only reveals the following. Obviously, not enough to differentiate between mid and late 2017. And the box was not the original Apple Box. It was the refurb company's own box.

Model Name: iMac Pro
Model Identifier: iMacPro1,1
Processor Name: 8-Core Intel Xeon W
Processor Speed: 3.2 GHz
Number of Processors: 1
Total Number of Cores: 8
L2 Cache (per Core): 1 MB
L3 Cache: 11 MB
Hyper-Threading Technology: Enabled
Memory: 32 GB

Was there a mid-2017 iMac Pro? Wikipedia says it was released in December 2017, so it'll be classified as a "late 2017".

There's a list of iMacPro1,1s here:

The 3.2Ghz one is here:

The model numbers are shown towards the top, above the image.

I have no idea. That's why I'm asking. You're talking to someone who just switched back to Mac after a very long lay off. With how terrible Windows 11 is and not liking the direction they're going there one single freaking bit, I bit the bullet and went back to Mac.

Is there any difference between the power cords on Amazon? WESAPP? ODYSON? OSTRICH?

None of them mention the iMac Pro 27" and I hesitate to buy anything that doesn't directly say the iMac Pro. And I can't find anything on Apple's website offering a power cable.

Yeah, that's my problem figuring out. It states iMac 27" - meaning the iMac 27" in silver with Intel Core i-# CPUs. Not iMac Pro 27" in dark grey, which is an Intel Xeon (what I have). None of these power adapter brands on Amazon state iMac Pro 27" Xeon CPU in dark grey.

Welcome back! How long were you gone? (I went from a 2x800K Mac SE to a 15.4" retina mid-2014... then a mid-2020 27" as the first Mac desktop)

(Also, why pick an Intel iMac Pro to go back...?)

Thank you!! 2013-ish. Still have a pristine condition 2012 iMac 27". When I booted it back up I fell back in love with the screen quality.

My latest Windows PC was on the verge of dying the last week of November, 2022. A day after I bought my new iMac while I was transferring files (luckily I got everything transferred), my Windows computer completely died on me. Thank goodness I got my new iMac when I did. Anyway, I bought a 27" Intel iMac Pro to go back to because I just cannot deal with a screen smaller than 27". For someone who has worked with 32" monitors for the past five years, I just can't deal with 24" screens on the new M-based CPU iMacs. It's far too small to be useful.

Also, there is no space grey or really a real silver "adult" color on the iMacs anymore. They're all bright, ugly pastel kid colors and none of them appeal to me.

My theory: I think they are going to eventually launch an M2 (or M3) Pro/Max space grey (or maybe both space grey and silver) "iMac Pro" using that 32" retina-grade 6K panel in the monitor that Dell just announced at CES. It just seems like too big of a coincidence that Dell (who also uses panels from LG Display, same as Apple, in their higher-end monitors) is launching something with exactly the resolution that Apple would want for a new, bigger-than-27", Retina-grade screen...

In the current lineup, the "adult" desktop is the studio (or the new Mini) with the studio display. Not a very satisfactory lineup, I would agree with you.

All recent (from probably 2012 on, or older) iMac power cords are physically the same, with the only difference on the iMac Pro being that the cable is black or very dark gray, compared to white for standard iMacs. You don't actually even need an iMac specific power cord. The actual connector on the computer is just an IEC C13, which is pretty much standard for any desktop computer.

Awesome. Thank you so much for clarifying. I'll order one right now.

By the way...the other thing that made me switch over to Mac: I could never understand why Microsoft can't fix the glitching text in Windows 10/11. Why do they release such a crap product? And never fix the very basic details? I could never get past the text that would literally break apart when you clicked on it. And no matter what computer I got, it was always there. So infuriating.
