If he customizes the machine, he cannot return it.

Yes he can, it'll be sold as refurb. In USA there's 10% restocking fee. When I was sending my iMac back and forth because of dead pixels the guy always asked do I want to return it, get another new iMac or other Apple product. He confirmed that yes, I can return it if I want

EDIT: Actually, you can't return it in states but in Finland you can, strange....

USA store:

Items that cannot be returned include:

Product that is custom configured to your specification

Finland store:

If you change your mind, you can return your Standard or Configured-to-Order hardware to us within 14 calendar days of delivery

So whatever I get I am stuck with. Only further reason to keep debating as you don't want to buy something that's insufficient although I am being told the top imac would do. The price just makes more sense for now as I'd be saving for a while to even get my computer let alone the other stuff involved in a home studio.

I figured the new imac will cost me around 2419 plus tax. That's including a 50 dollar upgrade on the graphics. I'd love to have the macpro but I honestly can't see how it would be cheaper than the imac. Of course I want all the power but as many have stated I should not worry until I run into issues running logic studio, symphonic choir and my learning lessons through gband. Someone said I'm obsessing over ram. Here's the reason why I was in the apple forum and I had guys saying get ram, ram and more ram. You get the picture they were pushing it hard so if it seems as if I'm obsessing it's just something I was told in the apple forum. I understand I haven't even gotten the computer yet but I get confused when I hear I could get a macpro for less. It throws my computer purchasing thoughts into an upheaval cuz of course I want the macpro it just doesn't seem viable on my budget right now. However hopefully in the future I would upgrade if I were to get the imac now. Decisions, decisions.

The high-end $2199 iMac with the ATI 4850 is a great choice. The Mac Pro would have been more expensive because you would have to buy a monitor.

Probably has to do with differences in legislation or something. Maybe in Finland companies must take back products, custom or not:confused:

Yea it's because of laws I think. All products ordered through phone or online must have full return for 14 days.

I thank you all for all the help now just send me some good vibes my way (if you would) to sell my car so I can get to business. You've all been so great and I realize I'm writing this as if it's the last one but who am I kidding I'll always have more questions but I certainly feel good about the imac feedback. :)

Congrats of your purchase! Feel free to ask whatever you want here in MacRumors but please give MRoogle a chance before posting, it answers most of your questions faster than new thread would.

It's a beast, you'll love it

8 Gb Ram Kit

I am getting a new 3.06GHz IMac, >I will use it for video editing and for image retouching.
Sometimes I work on very heavy images (2 gb and more) with multiple programs opened at the same time, so I will definetly upgrade the RAM to 8 gb.

Mac 8 gb ram kit cost a fortune : 1000$
so I searched and searched and found out that the price can change very much from company to company.

I found for example this very cheap one : http://forums.mactalk.com.au/42/608...-ram-kits-now-sale-276-99-ramcity-com-au.html
but I am sure is can't trust it.

Crucial (the company that I normally trust more) does not seem to have 8 gb ram kits so far.

OWC is at 729,29 $ http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/iMac/DDR3_2009

Do you guys have any suggestion on how to buy good and cheap 8GB 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM for an IMAC ?

thanks a lot

fespado

yeah I'd love to find that too but the overwhelming response seems to be to wait 3-6 months and it will go down. You probably want it now and I feel the same way but unfortunately when I too looked owc's 729 was the best that I'd found. And I'd also come to learn to really only go for owc, crucial and someone had mentioned I believe mushkin so maybe try that one.

Sorry guys one more question. You all feel good about what I'll be running with 4 ram just wanted to run some specs by you. I'll of course have logic studio but here are the specs on the symphonic choir the guy said you need a dual core G5 1.8ghz and 2 gb ram. Will this all run smoothly or does it sound like more ram time. I will also have the lessons for guitar and piano from gband. Sorry, I know you all have spent a great deal of time helping me out and I appreciate it:)

The 3.06 iMac is more than enough for what you said. 4GB of RAM is fine.

Sorry, I know I said one more thing and macmini you're probably getting tired of saying no problem. It's this one thing I don't understand. They say you have let's say 4 GB ram. Yet it takes 39 GB to load all of the Logic Studio stuff onto the computer. Confused how it says 4 GB and ugh! Totally confused by this. Obviously there's more GB than 4 and I know I've failed to mention yet that I know very little about computers but a quick explanation would put to rest what I've been wondering for quite some time just haven't spoke up about yet. Thanks for the help:)

That 39GB will be put onto your hard drive.

The 4 gigs is just for the program. The 39GB is for all of the extra sound effects, plug ins, loops etc...those typically can be installed on an external drive if you need too, however, you are buying a 1tb drive, so don't worry about the space.
