Latest rumor on MacRumors is $649 for the 5.4”. Yes it’s only 5.4”, but it’s still OLED. And it still has a pricy 5G chip. So where will the cost saving come from? I’d appreciate some realistic possibilities.

- Large screen edge like with the 11 (non pro)?
- Last years camera?
- Small battery?
- Stick with 4G?
- Anything else?

It’s not called “cheap out”. It’s called pricing strategy.

The only thing that could be different compared to the bigger models is the number of cameras if I have to take a guess.

Everything else will remain the same.

I don’t mind giving up one camera... I just hope it’s got a steel frame and not aluminum.

Paladinguy, the 5.4” iphone is 90% gonna have an aluminium frame, sorry to break it to you. I hope I’m wrong but the Steel frame is reserved for the pro models. I’m getting it either way though, especially with the rumours of the increasing prices.

I guess it wouldn’t be a huge deal. I’ve just gotten used to the steel on my iPhone X. Who knows for sure. I also wonder how long any delay might be for launching them. I’m getting excited for my upgrade. This is the longest I’ve used an iPhone in a while, and my wife will be inheriting my iPhone X that’s in new condition. She’s still rocking my old iPhone 6S. Thankfully only one of us cares about tech.

Less RAM I guess. Be interesting to see if the battery life is par with the current 11 series.

  • 4 GB RAM
  • Rigid 8-bit OLED
  • Sub-6 GHz only
  • No ToF sensor
This, possibly 2 rather than 3 cameras, and aluminum rather than steel frame.

Really hoping it has the same cameras/camera tech as the Pro models, though.

I still don’t use wireless charging, so I’d like an ALL aluminum case like the original SE, to be on the 5.4”, but that’s never going to happen. It should have wide and extra wide lenses, and plenty of RAM, plus pretty good image processing.

They’ll have to hold back on something, but I’m not sure where. Hopefully they’ll find a way to pack more mAh into the battery, as that’s always a good thing.

I suspect it’ll be 4g only - typically new tech is costly & Apple usually passes this cost to consumers.

And as others have mentioned, it’ll likely have x2 lens.

In many ways I’d expect it to be an iteration of the iPhone 11 - just smaller and with OLED.

Less RAM. The average drooling customer has no idea just what impact RAM has on performance and multitasking ability of the phone

What’s to love about a steel frame? Isn’t it just making the phone heavier?

Steel frame gives a more premium look and feel, but aluminium is fine and Apple don’t skimp on quality so it will look good either way as a flat edge, especially silver aluminium. Like others have said it’ll be just like the current 11 and 11 pro differences which is fair. The big question is battery, hopefully will be more than the current SE for sure, around 2400 Mh should make it proportionately equal to the larger phones.

Care about the size more than anything else and Apple is at least delivering with that.

Everything else is icing.

If the rumors were true, then Apple will cheapen out by not including the basic accessories like the charger.

The iPhone 12 itself won't be "cheapen" out, as it will be basically a smaller iPhone 11 with 2020 internals and OLED screen. On its own, it will actually be a good value for what you get.

I just wish that there would be a 5.4" pro model. I liked the camera on my X better than on the 11 for my usage.

Yeah I hope the battery won’t be bad like the new SE. I’m really spoiled with battery after having the 11. The low resolution LCD screen really improves the battery. I’m afraid that a small body and an OLED screen will dramatically reduce the battery time compared to my 11.

I honestly down think it will cheap out, well maybe on OLED. I think it will be comparable in specs to Max except for battery life. Kind of like getting the ultimate iPhone in a compact size or ultimate iPhone in the Larger size.
