Plex is up and running. Cool.

But I'm surprised that VLC isn't available for Apple TV 4 yet.

It is expected as mentioned in this MacRumor's article:
https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/vlc-and-plex-apps-coming-to-new-apple-tv.1916118/

There are a couple of things Plex can't handle on my Apple TV 4 that Plex also can't handle on my Mac mini..:
1. DTS WAV files (5.1)
2. HD Audio (24 bit > 48 KHz)
... and VLC on my Mac mini handles these files fine.

So, I wonder IF / WHEN VLC will come to the Apple TV 4, and IF this app can handle above mentioned files.

I'm testing as well...I would recommend nastify if you want something now. It is a frontend for VLC (it runs the VLC code and provides a cleaner interface). If you ask the author of nastify, he can probably sign you up for the beta for it and get it free during the development phase. This will give you an idea if you want to purchase it or not. Your alternate would be to wait for infuse...which is pretty superior.

Heard that Infuse finished its beta 4 stage and the final build has been submitted approval @ Apple. Guess with the Thanksgiving break in the US, it will still take more than a week to get the final approval.

VLC for AppleTV will come, dev team is working hard on it right now and the current version (compiled from sources) is already quite nice !
BTW, don't lose time to check how to compile your how version, source code is not public yet ...
