I'm confused about which MacBook Pro I should get. On the buy page there are two that say "new" and two that don't. I assume those two new ones are the new base that they have added the TB to? And they only have two ports?

I don't need 4 ports and I mainly use my newer iMac for work. I do frequently use Photoshop, light video work, as well as Windows in a virtual Machine.

I was going to just get the 1.4ghz but then I wondered if I should spend $270 more for the 1.7ghz i7? Is more better if you can afford it? Or will this be louder/hotter than the 1.4ghz?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. For comparison, I'm using a mid-2012 MacBook Air so anything will be a great improvement; however, I plan to keep this for five years.

The 1.7 seems like an IQ test - if you buy it you failed. Rather than the 1.7 the 2.4 would be a far superior buy from the benchmarks we’ve seen so far.

I would not get the 2018, older keyboard, older technology by a year... that's just my opinion..

I initially thought you should get a refurbished 2018 MBP but the base 2019 MBP’s benchmarks are so close to the 2018 MBP that it makes more sense to go with the cheaper 2019 base model. If you don’t need four ports, that’s the model to get.

So are the MBP versions with 2.4 older specs than the base models now? I haven't seen much said about the 1.7ghz upgrade. Is this not worth it?

There haven’t been any particularly through reviews yet, but early indications are surprisingly good and close CPU performance but slower SSD and wifi. So given the cost difference between the 1.7 and 2.4 it seems like a no brainer to get the 2.4 or stay with the 1.4.

Again, still waiting for a proper review so hopefully we’ll know more soon.
