hi all, I'm helping my sis decide which MB to buy; we've been waiting for the new MBA's, but the 13" MBP may be the way to go, after all. Her primary usage is routing browsing + external display for watching video. So, the screen quality (Retina, etc), is not much of a consideration.

Is the external display capability much different between the MBA and MBP? Is there any major reason to buy a latest/greatest, or would the previous version of the MBP be a good deal? I'm not finding that big of a difference between the late-2011's vs. mid-2012's for her type of usage, unless I'm missing something.

    thx,

    b.

Women never need powerful computers :p

I imagine a refurb 2011 MBA would be perfect?

    2012 version has USB 3.0

Be sure to get that, USB 3.0 is going to be around for a very long time.

for me it would, but she just does some minimal flash drive transfers (she's a teacher)

    or cars, rite?:p:p

I think it's going to come down to which is more suited to the external display. Also, I kinda like the flexibility/cost of the MBP for adding more memory and storage vs the MBA.

If that's the case, then 2011 vs. 2012 MBP will be the question.
