Which 19" LCD?

Is there a 19" LCD that's comparable to the 17" Apple but is significantly cheaper (at least around 600)?

I want more real estate, can't afford the 20" Cinema, so when I could spend 699 on a 17" Apple, I feel like I should go 3rd party and get a 19" LCD elswhere.... but which do I get?

I'll be doing print design primarily so color and sharpness are very important.

Based on hearsay,

Dell's UltraSharp models are rebranded Samsung LCDs, and are said to be of good quality. You might want to see one for yourself.

These can go for cheaper... dell frequently has deals on them and coupons.

I have a dual Dell 1900FP setup and it is very nice. Now with coupon deals you can usually find the Dell 1901FP for around $550. This screen is even better because it's height adjustable and can be rotated between landscape and portrait mode.

I had a 1900FP with my former pc, and it was absolutely awesome. the 1901 is bit different model, but looks even better. however, and maybe I'm a bit anal, but I'd be hard pressed to use a piece of hardware that says "dell" on it with my Mac

I got a 18.1" Gateway LCD for $400 and I couldn't be happier with it.

It looks great, it is bright, it works, and there are no dead pixels. Not to mention it was a frickin' great deal.

I bought a Cornea CT1810 18.1" for My e-Bay'd Quicksilver for $475 after rebates 6 months ago and I couldn't be happier!
MacMall is where I bought it ( see http://shop.macrumors.com/ ) , but a Guy on e-Bay is a Cornea dealer and has good "Buy It Now" prices. e-mail him first if you want one and he'll put that model on "Buy It Now" if needs be.
I wouldn't buy a DELL, cuz I HATE their commercials

Dell has a deal on the 1901FP for $519. Looks like a deal. Description says that it is PC compatible and no mention of Mac? It has DVI-D connection. I am planning on getting a G5 1.6 am and only interested in a digital connection. Is this compatible? Will it work? Anyone know the response time on this LCD? See that it's contrast ratio is 600 (nice) and the brightness is 250, seems about average but have seen some very good comments about the Ultra Sharp 1901FP. I know that the similar Planar has better specs: 700:1 and 300 brightness BUT it doesn't have 4 USB 2.0 hub. Your thoughts on this. Thanks

If you can bear with the Dell name, I'd go for it. Personally I couldn't, no because it is evil Dell, but because it wouldn't match everything else.

Something else to think about ...

Someone please correct if I'm wrong. Most 17", 18" and 19" monitors have the same resoltion (number of pixles). As such, the 19" does not give MORE space. It makes the same amount of space look bigger. The Apple 17" and the Dell 1901 FP have the same number of pixles, 1280 x 1024. Some folks think you can fit more stuff on the bigger screens, but you can't.

Having said that, the Dell does seem to offer more feaures: 4 USB 2 ports, Portrait/Landscape modes, adjustable height, and $50 cheaper than the Apple 17".

On Tuesday, Sept 16, I'm hoping Apple will announce a new monitor lineup, better features and better pricing. Oherwise I'll have to give Dell some serious thought.
