Currently for 2022, Apple Car Key works only for BMW:
  • BMW 1 Series
  • BMW 2 Series
  • BMW 3 Series
  • BMW 4 Series
  • BMW 5 Series
  • BMW 6 Series
  • BMW 8 Series
  • BMW M8
  • BMW X5
  • BMW X5 M
  • BMW X6
  • BMW X6 M
  • BMW X7
  • BMW Z4
I believe Genesis may have some models coming this year that are compatible. Rumor has it 2022 is the year that BMW loses exclusivity and other manufacturers can implement them. If that is the case, I imagine Hyundai & Kia will do so (as they have this feature already for Android).

However, lots of manufacturers make their own apps to allow lock/unlock but it requires a cell/WiFi connection. Apple Car Key does not require a cell/network connection and works off NFC.

I do hope it's more adopted in 24-25 when I'm looking for a new car. Two things on my wishlist are wireless carplay and carkey

I've been testing driving quite a few cars lately. I can't remember which car it was, but the saleswoman showed me 7 or 8 cameras on the car. (not Tesla) It got me thinking.... why can't manufacturers incorporate some sort of Face ID thing to unlock the car when it sees my face? :) To make it more secure, just just make the engine start/stop button be a fingerprint scanner as well. :)

Not sure having to take phone out and put it near is really any benefit. I just walk over to car and grab the handle and ..

The Apple iCar Pro, which you can lease for a very affordable $2,499 per month. Stick it to the man at Tesla!
