Seriously, what are your expectations of the camera differences between Pro and Pro Max?

I just watched the whole event again and almost all the photos they showed were taken on the Pro Max.

However, there was a small detail I missed during live event; the movie that they showed recorded on the (regular) iPhone 12 which included a lot of night scenes with great low light performance. So, if you can do that on the iPhone 12, it looks to me I will be more than happy with the iPhone 12 Pro..(I am upgrading from iPhone X!)

That half of an inch makes a world of difference in one-handed usage though.

This is the critical point for me. I've seen people commenting that it's only .4" longer and .2" wider but that's almost 10% longer and almost 10% wider. And, those "small" amounts are huge for one-handed usage.

I've been waffling on the decision of 12P vs. 12PM for a little while now but I just think that my usage (like 95% one-handed) dictates the 12P. I would love to have the larger camera sensor and improved stabilization on the 12PM but I'll watch the reviews to see how much of a difference it really makes. My guess is that for most common photo situations (non-low light) it'll be a very modest improvement at best.

I owned a couple of the Samsung Galaxy Note versions and could never get comfortable using those things one-handed. And, my oldest one -- Samsung Note 4 -- is actually smaller than the 12PM.

I'm starting to finalize my preparations for the 12 Pro tomorrow. Tempered glass screen protectors ordered etc.
Yeah yeah, Apple says that the coating is going to be more scratch-resistant and shatter-proof, but all I know is my 11 Pro Max is riddled with micro-scratches. Granted, they are only visible when the display is off in very harsh direct sunlight, but it's still annoying. And no, I don't have sand in my pockets!!

Really hoping that there is noticeable improvement to the scratch resistance, but not taking any chances this time around. I much prefer the experience of not have any screen protector, but at the end of the day, I'd rather not have any micro-scratches.
Seriously? Do you think those cheap screen protectors don’t scratch? If anything they scratch EASIER then the much more expensive Apple screen. You going to constantly reapply those things? At what cost (dollars and sanity included)? Not worth it. I have exactly one very faint micro scratch on my 11 pro in a year of use with no case or screen protector. Yes it’s always in a pocket by itself, but that’s about the only precaution I take. I’m constantly leaving it on the counter at work and home, etc. It literally looks brand new.

So for what it's worth, I had nearly decided on the 12 Pro instead of 12 PM. I have a 7 Plus that's in desperate need of an upgrade (camera doesn't even work anymore). Reading about the 12 PM on this thread made it seem like size was a huge issue and I figured it would be for me too going from a 5.5" screen to 6.7" screen. However, as it turns out, the size of the 7 Plus itself is very nearly identical to the 12 PM. It's just that there is less screen compared to the non-screen edges of the device. I will be going for the Pro Max. For what it's worth, I carry the 7 Plus in my front pocket not infrequently and it usually doesn't cause issues.

It’s $8 for a 3 pack and Amfilm has great quality that doesn’t scratch as easily as the oleophobic coating. You do you, I’m just sharing my experience.

I’d much rather replace a screen protector than have $200 Ac+ that doesn’t cover cosmetic issues like that.

I am 90% sure that I'm going to get the Blue 12 Pro, not the max, but there is still another 8 hours before pre-orders start....a lifetime to change my mind.
It's already going to cost me $2000 (Australian) to get the 12 Pro, the max would blow that out to $2500 AUD, I'm not sure I want to try to justify that extra cost.

I think the one you can most easily take a shot i

12P. It's more portable for one-handed usage, and easier to get to and carry long term than the 12PM.
Sure the PM has bigger sensor and better OIS, but it is less wieldy and heavier.

I mean, I get it. I have OCD, but the struggle of putting on a screen protector (no bubbles, no dust, moon at the right height in the sky, humidity at the right temperature, blah blah) just to degrade the actual experience over something that is a non issue in actual use and can possibly be avoided if cautious? Not even worth it. Then thinking of doing that multiple times over the next year, ya no. So not worth the angst.

Yes it’s a bit difficult to install but tempered glass produces no bubbles luckily and dust is mostly solved by some shower steam. Agreed it degrades the experience though, but man I disagree on “avoided if cautious”. You just never know what little piece of dirt could scratch it.

Sorry though, don’t mean to take up too much space regarding this! Main thing here is PRO or MAX! That’s the real tough question at hand!

That's strange, I run my phones naked since I can remember, and it always somehow finds a way to crack the back for a full replacement with AC+ before I sell it...lol

Apparently the embargo is lifting and tech reviewers will have videos posted by Tuesday. Kind of glad I'm waiting for the 12PM now so I can see the videos!

Same dilemma here. I've been using the XS Max for the last 2 years and assumed I would get the Pro Max. But the more I think about it, and reading posts here, I've decided to get the regular Pro. I like the idea of a powerful phone with a slightly smaller form. I got the XS Max for the camera features, but the regular Pro will give me quite a camera upgrade. The camera differences between the Pro and Pro Max weren't enough for me to go big. If the Max provided a better CPU or an upgrade to 5G (as we thought it might), it would be a no brainer. Pacific Blue Pro it is for me.

I was dead set on getting the 12 pro as I’m upgrading from a Xs Max but I know I will regret downsizing and not to mention the pro max has an even better camera so I decided I’m holding out for November 6.

I think at this point, I’m ordering the 12 pro today and will play with it for a few days. If I don’t like the smaller screen, I’ll return it and get the Max.

Was all set on getting the 12 Pro until I saw this...

You're losing a lot of useful screen real estate. Think I'm going to cancel my pre-order and get the Max.

This is why I was initially so hesitant to downsize. It's definitely a big phone, but I strongly prefer picking up my phone instead of my 11" iPad most times. The 6.5" max was a joy to use everywhere whether it was for photos, videos, maps, or reading. The 6.7" is something I'm looking forward to!

This is a great graphic because it shows how well optimized Macrumors is! Pro Max is definitely the definitive experience in terms of maximizing content on the display, but the site does surprisingly well across all 3 devices! Doesn’t sway me back into the PM camp, still going to try out the Pro on launch day next week, but I certainly will be putting it to the test to make sure I have no regrets.

Struggling HARD with this decision. Please help!!

Ughhh. Not sure. I currently have a 11 Pro Max. I love it but thinking of downgrading in size for better form factor, one hand usage, etc. I do love a big screen though. So not sure. I’m on AUP and don’t mind upgrading. That blue and style are calling my name! I'm obviously hoping for 120hz next year so I'll most LIKELY upgrade next year but you never know. So I want to make a good decision regardless. Help help, its eating me alive haha

I had the same problem. I have an 11 Pro Max and decided to downgrade in size but upgrade in lifestyle. The 11 Pro Max is already too big IMO to carry around for daily real life use, the thought of an even larger phone in the 12 Pro Max is just ridiculous to me.

You can use these sites to compare sizes, helped me make my call for a 12 Pro:

Based on this, you should use a iPad mini as your go to device. Of course a larger screen means larger real estate but sites are optimized for mobile now, the 6.1 iPhone 12 Pro has the third largest iPhone screen ever, it’s not much of a sacrifice.

Yeah I ordered the iPhone 12 pro coming October 23rd but I have every intention of returning it and pre-ordering the 12 pro max and sticking it to Apple for removing the charger 🔌 that I don’t need. I also looked at their market cap and don’t feel an ounce of guilt to tinker with a new toy until I get the toy I want. Am I a jackass?

If your intention is just to play with it until the you can get the max, I think that’s a dick move personally. Not necessarily because I want to defend Apple, but if numerous people did the same thing then customers who actually would want to keep one are missing out on a launch day phone.

I can see what you're saying but we're all paying for it so there's nothing wrong with wanting to see two options... I'm doing the same thing. But I may just sell mine instead of returning it. Or who knows maybe keep it? In the end of day its what the customer wants and everyone has a right to do what they want their money.

At least you’re honest. But the company being able to withstand it is besides the point.

as mentioned that device could go to someone intending to get that device.

can’t you justwait a few weeks? I would say you’re impatient not trying to prove a point. And if you are the point is lost in translation. How you really stick it to Apple is don’t buy anything from them if you really feel taken advantage of

there’s worse sins out there though
